Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a un método no tóxico para la selección de células transformadas de entre una población que consiste de células transformadas y no transformadas. El método comprende los siguientes pasos: a) introducir a una célula al menos una secuencia nucleotídica de interés y al menos una secuencia nucleotídica de selección para obtener células genéticamente transformadas, donde la secuencia nucleotídica de selección comprende una secuencia que promueve la inhibición de la enzima trehalasa endógena; b) colocar la población con células transformadas y no transformadas en un medio de cultivo que contiene una sustancia osmoreguladora como el PEG 8000 y c) seleccionar las células transformadas de la población en base a la capacidad de las células transformadas de sobrevivir y desarrollarse en presencia de la sustancia osmoreguladora confiriendo a las plantas derivadas de estos eventos de transformación genética capacidad de tolerancia a sequía y frío.
