Abstract

Una composición de fluido dieléctrico para un aparato eléctrico, que comprende un estearato de metil-12-carboxi metilo funcionalizado que tiene propiedades deseables que incluyen un punto de vertido menor a -30°C y un punto de ignición menor a 250°C. Se puede preparar a través de un proceso en donde el estearato de metil-12-hidroxi metilo se transesterifica mediante reacciones con un alcohol C3-C20 para formar el éster hidroximetílico, seguido de la reacción con un ácido carboxílico lineal o ramificado C4-C20 seleccionado de cloruros de ácido libre, ácidos grasos, anhídridos de ácido carboxílico y combinaciones de los mismos. El segundo paso sirve para cubrir el extremo de los grupos de hidroxilo, produciendo de esta forma el compuesto de estearato de metil-12-carboxi metilo funcionalizado que exhibe estabilidad termooxidativa y capacidad de fluido a baja temperatura mejoradas, así como puntos de incendio incrementados.
