Un proceso para refinar una corriente de metanol crudo (103), que comprende: pre-tratamiento del metanol crudo en una etapa de descabezamiento (100), para la separación de componentes volátiles, a una presión de descabezamiento definida (p1); destilación de metanol con al menos un paso de destilación final de metanol a una presión de destilación definida (p4), en el cual dicha presión de destilación (p4) es mayor que la presión de descabezamiento (p1), y en el cual una corriente gaseosa de metanol destilado (440), el cual se produce en el paso de destilación final, se usa para suministrar al menos parte del calor para el pre tratamiento del paso de descabezamiento.
