Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a un método para extraer luteína a partir de materiales naturales que comprende: a. pretratamiento de materiales naturales que contienen luteína mediante la modificación de un éster de luteína natural en los materiales naturales para obtener luteína libre; b. extracción que comprende poner en contacto dichos materiales naturales pretratados en (a) con un fluido supercrítico, ajustar la temperatura entre 40-100°c o la presión entre 200-450 bares durante el tiempo necesario para proporcionar la luteína libre en el fluido supercrítico: c. separación de los materiales sólidos a partir del fluido, después de la extracción, ajustar la temperatura y/o presión para minimizar la solubilidad de los materiales extraídos en el fluido y la recolección de dichos materiales extraídos, que es la luteína cruda.
