Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a el campo de la recuperación mejorada de crudo microbiano (MEOR). En particular, la invención se relaciona con métodos microbianos nuevos, eficientes, económicos y ambientalmente seguros para mejorar la recuperación de crudo en los depósitos de crudo existentes, así como con microorganismos útiles en tales métodos. Un método para mejorar la recuperación de petróleo, caracterizado porque comprende introducir en un yacimiento de petróleo un microorganismo capaz de crecer en un entorno de alta salinidad en exceso de la salinidad indígena del yacimiento y tóxico para los microbios que degradan el petróleo ligero indígenas del yacimiento, organismo que es deficiente en su capacidad para degradar hidrocarburos de cadena corta de 12 carbonos o menos, y ajustar la salinidad del yacimiento de petróleo a un nivel de sal que sea tóxico para los microbios que degradan el petróleo indígena, en donde: (i) el microorganismo tiene la capacidad de utilizar cadenas de hidrocarburos de más de 12 átomos de carbono; y/o (ii) el microorganismo tiene la capacidad de producir agentes tensioactivos.
