Abstract
Un aparato para comprimir un material incluye un eje longitudinal central, una pluralidad de palancas cada una que tiene un portador de herramientas y que define un eje longitudinal de la palanca, y una pluralidad de mordazas cada una unida a una palanca en un portador de herramientas para formar una combinación de palanca/abrazadera, en donde cada abrazadera tiene una superficie de compresión que tiene un área. El aparato incluye además un mecanismo de compresión configurado para mover cada palanca en un movimiento no lineal de manera que el área de una superficie de compresión expuesta al material disminuye con el movimiento hacia dentro esa superficie de compresión, en donde cada combinación de palanca/abrazadera incluye un mecanismo de presión configurado de manera que mordazas adyacentes entran en contacto entre sí. El plano de cada superficie de compresión puede ser predominantemente tangencial al eje longitudinal central del aparato. Cada mecanismo de presión puede configurarse para presionar su mordaza a lo largo del eje longitudinal de la palanca hacia una mordaza adyacente.
