Abstract

La solicitud se refiere a un proceso para la producción de acero que comprende la producción de hierro esponja (10) a partir de un material de partida que contiene óxido de hierro (11) por reducción directa con gas de reducción (13), en donde el gas de reducción (13) comprende al menos un 20 % en volumen de hidrógeno H2, y la producción de hierro fundido con un contenido de carbono de 1-5 % en masa a partir del hierro esponja. El hierro esponja se somete a un tratamiento que comprende - suministro de energía y adición de aditivos para producir una masa fundida y una escoria, donde el suministro de energía se efectúa sustancialmente a partir de la electricidad y donde la escoria tiene una basicidad B2 de menos de 1.3, preferiblemente menos de 1.25, particularmente preferiblemente menos de 1.2, - ajuste del contenido de carbono en la masa fundida, - reducción de al menos una porción de los óxidos de hierro presentes en el hierro esponja La escoria se separa durante y/o después del tratamiento. Dicho hierro fundido se usa para la producción de acero.
