Abstract
Un método y aparato para detectar rupturas en las vías y/o detectar la presencia de un vehículo, tal como un tren, en una sección monitoreada de la vía o riel. Las modalidades de la presente invención miden el cambio en la inductancia de la vía asociada con una rotura de vía o riel. Las derivaciones eléctricas están conectadas entre los rieles a intervalos separados (por ejemplo, se puede colocar una derivación cada milla). Se generan al menos dos frecuencias diferentes de corriente alterna y se alimentan a los segmentos del riel (por ejemplo, en o cerca de un punto medio entre las derivaciones). Si ocurre una ruptura de riel, la inductancia total del riel en ese segmento cambiará. El uso de dos o más frecuencias permite diferenciar una rotura de riel de fuga ambiental de riel a riel y de riel a tierra.
