Abstract
La presente invención se refiere a un codificador (400), un decodificador (450), y métodos (20, 30) para particionar una imagen a partir de imágenes de secuencia de video en un diseño que tiene una pluralidad de mosaicos o segmentos flexibles. Cada segmento o mosaico (T) comprende una región rectangular o cuadrada única. El codificador genera (22) una estructura de partición y codifica (28) los mosaicos de conformidad con la estructura de partición. El codificador también genera un flujo de bits (12) que comprende una pluralidad de segmentos codificados e información que indica la estructura de partición usad apara la partición de la imagen en la pluralidad de mosaicos o segmentos flexibles, y envía (29) el flujo de bits al decodificador. Después de la recepción, el decodificador usa los segmentos codificados e información en el flujo de bits para decodificar (38) la pluralidad de segmentos codificados.
