Abstract

Un sello mecánico de funcionamiento en seco es capaz de formar un sello de contacto directo por períodos prolongados tanto a velocidades de rotación bajas como altas sin calentamiento o desgaste excesivos de las caras del sello. La superficie trasera de la cara del estator y la superficie correspondiente de una placa de montaje están ambas lapeadas para una máxima transferencia de calor por contacto directo. El aire de una región que rodea al eje circula a través de un espacio anular de enfriamiento directamente detrás de la cara del estator y sale a través de los puertos de salida. En modalidades, las ondulaciones agrandadas u otras características en la cara del sello del rotor mejoran la turbulencia del aire próximo a las caras del sello. En varias modalidades una superficie que soporta una junta dinámica se pule con suavidad, reduciendo de esta manera la resistencia de la junta, minimizando la fuerza de presión requerida entre las caras del sello, y reduciendo el calentamiento por fricción. En modalidades, la forma de la cara del sello del rotor se optimiza para minimizar las distorsiones de presión a alta presión.
