Abstract

Reacciones parasitas, tales como la generacion de hidrogeno en el electrodo negativo, pueden ocurrir bajo las condiciones de operacion de las baterias de flujo y otros sistemas electroquimicos; dichas reacciones parasitas pueden afectar indeseablemente el desempeno de operacion alterando el pH y/o el estado de carga de una o ambas soluciones de electrolitos en una bateria de flujo; las celdas de equilibrio electroquimico pueden permitir que se lleve a cabo el ajuste de las soluciones de electrolitos; las celdas de equilibrio electroquimico adecuadas para que se pongan en comunicacion de fluido con ambas soluciones de electrolitos de una bateria de flujo pueden incluir: una primera camara que contiene un primer electrodo, una segunda camara que contiene un segundo electrodo, una tercera camara dispuesta entre la primera camara y la segunda camara, una membrana selectiva de cationes que forma una primera interfaz entre la primera camara y la tercera camara, y una membrana bipolar, una membrana selectiva de cationes, o un ensamble de electrodos de la membrana que forma una segunda interfaz entre la segunda camara y la tercera camara.
