Abstract

The invention relates to a process that begins with collection and continues with the disposal of municipal solid waste (MSW) in a treatment plant, in order for said waste to be converted into a construction material on the same day as collection and disposal. A first embodiment of the present invention relates to an integral industrial process for the low-cost conversion of MSW into a construction material suitable for human use, using a zero-emission process that benefits the environment and consists of the following steps: a) collecting, supplying and disposing of the MSW; b) pre-selecting and separating; c) primary grinding with a double-shaft primary crusher of the bladed shredder type for multiple materials, with interchangeable sleeves, equipped with toothed rollers operating at different speeds, and an extraction hood; d) secondary grinding by means of a 36" x 30" crusher of the rotary hammer type having a bladed grate comprising an adjustable-opening screen for multiple materials, with hammers that can be repaired; e) tertiary grinding with a 36" x 30" hammer crusher comprising a screen of the type with open blades (1/8"), and an extraction hood; f) screening; g) transporting the screened, ground MSW to storage silos; h) mixing, sanitising and inertising; i) pressing and moulding; j) drying and re-inertising; and k) final disposal of the product. In another embodiment, the present invention relates to a product that can be used in the construction industry in the form of a traditional brick, a breeze block, a solid block, a two-cavity block, paving stones of different forms and patterns, prefabricated panels, road dividers, bicycle lanes, pedestrian paths or sidewalks, etc., in which said product is chemically and biologically inert and comprises MSW and, per tonne of MSW used for its production, also comprises, proportionally, 40 to 60 Kg cement, 100 to 180 Kg lime, 10 to 30 Kg calcium bentonite, 10 to 30 Kg sodium bentonite, 10 to 30 Kg silica sand, 5 to 15 litres of 3% ionised water diluted in 90 litres of H2O.
