Abstract

La presente invención provee cristales de betacriptoxantina a partir de fuente de planta y un proceso para su preparación. La presente invención es concerniente en particular con un proceso para la preparación de cristales de beta-criptoxantina de alta pureza que comprenden por lo menos alrededor de 10% en peso de xantófilos totales, de los cuales por lo menos alrededor de 75% en peso consiste de trans-beta criptoxantina y el resto incluye beta-caroteno y cantidades en trazas de trans-capsantina y otros carotenoides derivados de la fuente de planta, inclusive frutas de pimiento. La producción de cristales de beta-criptoxantina con alto contenido de trans-beta-criptoxantina la hace ideal y apropiada para uso como material fuente de provitamina A y también tiene efectos potenciales para mejorar la salud del hueso e inhibir la resorción del hueso.
