Abstract
Una modalidad de la presente invención presenta un método para descargar un archivo de contenidos digitales desde una red de distribución de contenidos (CDN) que resida dentro de un sistema de distribución de contenidos. El método incluye las etapas de recibir una lista de CDN desde un servidor de directorio de contenidos que incluye uno ó más CDN residentes dentro del sistema de distribución de contenidos y también incluye una categoría y un peso para cada uno de las una ó más CDN, y seleccionar una CDN de la lista de CDN desde la cual descargar el archivo de contenidos digitales con base en una prueba de ancho de banda, en donde el CDN seleccionado es capaz de descargar una porción del archivo de contenidos digitales a una máquina reproductora de contenidos ó a una velocidad más alta de bits asociada con la máquina reproductora de contenidos ó que tenga un ancho de banda más grande que ó igual al ancho de banda pesado asociado con cualquiera otra CDN incluida en la lista de CDN El método también incluye las etapas de lanzar un subproceso de almacenamiento configurado para descargar el contenido digital asociado con el archivo de contenidos digitales de la CDN seleccionada y almacenar el contenido digital en una memoria de contenidos, y lanzar un subproceso de reproducción configurado para reproducir el contenido digital almacenado en la memoria de contenidos. Una ventaja del método divulgado es que cada reproductor de contenidos dentro del sistema de distribución de contenidos es capaz de facilitar la reproducción de los contenidos de manera fiel, a pesar de ciertas fallas dentro de la red de comunicaciones y ciertas otras fallas de los CDN. El reproductor de contenidos es capaz de volver a establecer la reproducción bajo condiciones severas de falla y benéficamente seleccionar un CDN bueno para descargar un archivo de contenidos digitales en condiciones subóptimas amplias del sistema. Otras modalidades incluyen, sin limitación, un medio legible por computadora que incluye instrucciones que permiten habilitar una unidad de procesamiento para implementar uno ó más aspectos de los métodos divulgados lo mismo que un sistema configurado para implementar uno ó más aspectos de los métodos divulgados.
