Abstract

La invención se refiere a un electrodo de alambre (1,1´) para procesos de corte por descarga eléctrica y un método para la producción del mismo. El electrodo de alambre (1,1´) tiene un núcleo (2) que contiene un metal o una aleación metálica, y un revestimiento (3, 4; 3, 4, 5) que rodea el núcleo (2) e incluye una o más capas de revestimiento (3, 4, 5), al menos una (3) de las cuales contiene una mezcla de fases de latón ß y/o latón ß´ y latón ?. En al menos una capa de revestimiento (3) que contiene latón ß y/o latón ß´ y latón ?, la fase ß y/o fase ß´ y la fase y se arreglan una junto a la otra en una estructura de grano fino en la cual el tamaño medio de los granos de latón ß y/o latón ß´ y los granos de latón ? equivalen a un máximo de 5 µm con relación a la sección transversal extendida perpendicular al eje longitudinal del electrodo de alambre (1, 1´). Para producir el electrodo de alambre (1, 1´), se usa un alambre que tiene una capa de revestimiento que contiene predominantemente latón ?, y se realiza una etapa de homogenización en la cual el latón y es sustancialmente transformado en un latón ß que tiene una mínima concentración de zinc de 51 por ciento en peso a temperaturas que exceden 600°C, y el alambre (1, 1´) se enfría finalmente, un proceso durante el cual las zonas de latón y se separan de la solución de sólido supersaturada de latón ß.
