Abstract
Modalidades de la invención son concernientes con la producción microbiana de ácidos polihidroxialcanoicos o polihidroxialcanoatos (PHA) a partir de sustratos que no pueden ser usados como fuente de carbono y/o energía para el crecimiento microbiano o síntesis de PHA y que tienen toxicidad microbiana y ambiental. De acuerdo con una modalidad de la invención, se provee un proceso para la producción de PHA, en donde una enzima, tal como metano monooxigenasa es usada para convertir compuestos orgánicos volátiles a PHA por medio del uso de microorganismos que no son aptos de usar compuestos orgánicos volátiles como fuente de carbono para cultivo o producción de PHA.
