Abstract

Disclosed is a method for calculating the quality factor Q by means of the spectral decomposition of seismic data measured in a three-dimensional volume of the subsoil. From the time and frequency representation of each trace, the method uses the maximum peaks and frequencies corresponding thereto, which along with the equations derived from the dispersion relation, the quality factor being determined by means of least square regressions. The similarity principle applied to each wavelet is used by the quality factor, wherein said factor is useful for correcting the effects of the dispersion present in the data, and improving the seismic images.
