Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a un método para fabricar una viga de bajo peso y alta resistencia, a partir de una hoja de material metálico, que comprende: (a) formar a partir del material de hoja un miembro en forma de canal que tenga un par de seccioens de patín opuestas transversalmente, con bordes terminales doblados hacia adentro y una sección de alma interconectora; (b) proveer una placa terminal, metálica rectangular, en cada extremo de la viga, que tenga un espesor mayor que el espesor del material de hoja; (c) recortar los extremos terminales de la sección de alma del miembro de canal, en una cantidad substancialmente igual a alrededor de la mitad del espesor de una placa terminal; (d) colocar un par de miembros de canal con sus secciones de alma recortadas en ua relación espaciada respaldo a respaldo, para proveer un área receptora de placa rectangular, del tamaño y forma de una placa terminal, teniendo sus esquinas definidas por los bordes terminales doblados hacia adentro de las secciones de patín; (e) ubicar una placa terminal dentro de un área receptora de placa, en contra de las secciones de alma recortadas, en sus extremos terminales; y (f) asegurar cada placa terminal al miembro de canal, mediante soldadura extendida sobre las superficies de las placas terminales expuestas hacia afuera, desde más allá de las secciones de patín de los miembros de canal.
