Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a mejoras en un procedimiento para la separación de un gas de alimentación que contenga metano y etano en un gas residual volátil que contenga una parte mayor de metano y una fracción menos volátil que contenga una parte mayor de etano, en el cual el metano y el tano, juntos, constituyen una parte mayor del gas de alimentación y en el cual el gas de alimentación se enfría a una presión alta y luego se expande a una presión baja, con lo cual tiene enfriamiento adicional y la corriente de alimentación con enfriamiento adicional se fracciona a la presión baja en una columna de fraccionación en la cual la temperatura en la parte superior se mantiene a una temperatura a la cual la parte principal del etano se recupera en la fracción menos volátil en, el fondo de la columna de fraccionación; las mejoras caracterizadas en que el procedimiento comprende: dividir el gas de alimentación en primera y segunda corrientes gaseosas enfradas; expandir la primera corriente gaseosa a la presión baja; enfriar adicionalmente la segunda corriente gaseosa a la presión alta y expandirla a una presión intermedia de modo que se condense una parte de la segunda corriente gaseosa; separar la parte condensada de la parte gaseosa restante de la segunda corriente gaseosa; expandir la parte condensada separada de la segunda corriente gaseosa a la presión baja; someter a enfriamiento adicional la parte gaseosa separada, restante, a la segunda corriente gaseosa y expandirla a la temperatura baja; alimentar la primera corriente gaseosa expandida, la parte condensada expandida de la segunda corriente gaseosa y la parte conde nsada expandida de la segunda corriente gaseosa y la parte gaseosa expandida restante de la segunda corriente gaseosa a la columna de fraccionación en primero, segundo y tercer puntos de alimentación; el tercer punto de alimentación es la alimentación en la parte superior de la columna y el segundo y tercer puntos de alimentación son en las posiciones inferiores de la columna.
