Abstract

The variety of walnut-tree konstiujenskii (Juglans regia L.) is obtained by individual selection from the seeds of the environs of Chişinău and is destinated for the cultivation of walnut-trees in all the fruit-growing areas of the Republic of Moldova.This is a well-grown tree, reaching more than 10 meters in height and 12 meters in diameter, with (a strong, very long) a flat, round, thick crown.The skeletal branches are strong, very long, directed almost perpendicular to the leader.The flowers is from of pistils are of a medium size, conical, with big stigma, yellow-green, the stamen-formed flowers are gathered in long, thick aments. The free blossoms curtly. The fruits are big (14,5 g), rounded, similar in size. the junction of valves forms small ribs. The tree is proterandrous. the nutshell is thick, rough, light-brown, of a medium strength. The kernel is big, white, with a yellow tint, covered by a thin straw-coloured pellicle, with a specific gravity of about 50%. the trees enter early in the fruiting perioud (4-5 year), produce their fruits very quickly, after 10-12 years the productivity is 20 kg of walnuts, which very resistant to cold.
