Marķēšanas process tiek veikts, uzsildot necaurspīdīgā materiāla lokalizētus apgabalus tā, ka notiek sublimācijas process un necaurspīdīgā materiāla daļiņas ar pietiekami lielu kinētisko enerģiju tiek leģētas caurspīdīgajā materiālā. Šis process ļauj uz caurspīdīgā materiāla virsmas iegūt grafiskos elementus, kas kļūst skaidri redzami.
