* The invention relates to a new rodenticide bait.

It is known to control rodents by the use of rodenticides, which are compounds having toxic properties towards rodents. There is therefore no need to describe them here in detail. Essentially, most generally, such a bait consists of an edible carrier mixed with an active rodenticidal substance proper. Depending on the nature of the support, the active substance rodenticide is added to this support by impregnation or by coating.

As we know, rodents, especially rats, mice and field mice, are very wary. Thus, they can recognize a rodenticide product very quickly, which then becomes completely ineffective because it is not consumed.

The invention is intended to overcome these drawbacks. Its purpose is an improved rodenticide bait which overcomes the distrust of rodents, in particular rats, mice and field mice, and which is therefore 20, more effective than the products marketed until then.

This improved rodenticide bait, consisting of an edible carrier coated with a rodenticide active substance, is characterized in that it also has a synthetic pear aroma.

In other words, the invention consists in adding a synthetic pear aroma to a known rodenticide bait, in order to overcome the natural distrust of rodents vis-à-vis this bait.

It could not be imagined that the simple addition of a specific aroma, namely the synthetic pear aroma, among all known adjuvants, would make it possible to overcome and effectively overcome the very deep distrust of rodents.

As we know, the flavor of an edible product is a composition that gives it its taste and smell.

These natural compounds can either be reconstituted (artificial flavor), or reproduced by synthesis (synthetic flavor).

"Synthetic pear aroma" means a synthetic aromatic composition which gives food the taste and smell of pear. In practice, a synthetic pear flavor consists essentially of a solution in a suitable solvent, for example an alcoholic solution, of vanilla extracts with a body comprising triacetin, esters, such as hexyl acetate. or amyl or trans-2-hexenyl, alcohols such as hexanol, acetic acid, aldehydes such as trans-2-hexanal, and ionones, and optionally stabilizers.

Admittedly, it is well known that some rodents like fruit. It has already been proposed to incorporate fruits or fruit extracts, or even natural fruit flavors, into rodenticidal baits. This solution has proven to be ineffective.

However, unexpectedly, the selection of the synthetic pear aroma provokes an irresistible attraction for the rodent, while other aromas, in particular natural, even pear extracts, give markedly lower results, and in any case in no way comparable.

Advantageously, in practice: the synthetic pear aroma is introduced by coating or impregnation, when the edible support is based on grains, or by mixing, when this support is based on paraffin or other liquid substance; the quantity of synthetic pear aroma introduced is between 0.01 and 5% of the weight of the support, and preferably in the vicinity of 0.1 to 1%. observed that, with a concentrated solution, if the quantity of synthetic pear aroma introduced exceeds 5%, the price of the composition is unnecessarily increased without obtaining additional proportional effects, 5 whereas if the concentration is less than 0.01 %, the effect is too reduced j likewise, it has been found that better results are obtained with a concentration of 0.1 to 1% which, in addition, gives an odor detectable by humans; 10 - the active substance rodenticide is of a type known per se; anti-coagulants such as, for example, coumafene, chlorophacinone, bromadiolone, difenacoum, and brodifacoum can be used; immediate action poisons such as scilliroside can also be used; in addition, several active rodenticidal substances can be used if necessary; the edible support is either solid: millet grains, wheat semolina, expanded rice, paraffin blocks containing edible materials, or liquid such as, for example, water; the quantities of active substances deposited on the edible support correspond to the usual and / or regulated quantities; these amounts are generally of the order of 0.05 to 0.001% of active substance relative to the weight of the support, depending on the nature of this active substance.

Thus, as in the other commercial rodenticide compounds, the edible support is very largely in the majority, since it represents practically up to 99% by weight of the composition.

It has been found that the best results are obtained by using expanded rice or Argentine millet coated with 0.1 to 5 and preferably 0.1 to 1% of synthetic pear flavor as edible support. . 35

It should be noted that expanded rice is particularly suitable for rats, while Argentine millet, by its dimensions, is well suited to mice.

5 The rodenticide bait according to the invention therefore has many advantages compared to the products marketed to date, since it exerts on the rodent an important attractive effect and that, thus, the rodent will be able to consume this product without being wary and by even 10 be poisoned.

The mixture of the three components, namely edible carrier, active substance, synthetic pear aroma, can be carried out in any order. It suffices simply to take the usual precautions, in particular 15 so that the flavor remains well fixed on the bait. In particular, the active ingredient rodenticide and the synthetic pear flavor can be mixed at first to obtain a ready-to-use solid or liquid composition which also forms part of the invention and which can in turn be mixed. edible support and other adjuvants, according to a technique known per se for coating or dusting. Furthermore, the bait according to the invention may contain usual adjuvants, in particular dyes.

As already said, the invention essentially resides in the selection of a particular additive compound, namely the synthetic flavor of pear, while other tested flavors, natural or synthetic, such as aromas of apple, grape , banana, meat, nuts, 30 give significantly lower results.

To test the efficacy of a composition according to Example 1 of the invention, the amounts of different foods (differing only in the flavor tested) are simultaneously controlled in a known manner and offered to control rats for a determined period of time. 4 days.
