Abstract
In a wire electrode for cutting workpieces by spark erosion, consisting of a clad or unclad erosion wire, at least the cladding containing one or more metallic alloy constituents having a low vaporisation temperature such as zinc, cadmium, lead, antimony, bismuth, graphite or the like, in order to increase the erosion efficiency and the surface quality obtained still further with little additional outlay, the wire electrode is covered with a top layer consisting of an electrically highly conductive material such as silver, gold, rhodium, palladium or iridium or their alloys and having a very small layer thickness.
