Fosfogipsas, kurį iš pagrindų sudaro pushidratis kalcio sulfatas su maža fosfatų priemaiša, susidaro fosforo rūgšties gamybos procese apatitus apdorojant sieros rūgštimi. Pastaruoju metu AB „Lifosa“ fosfogipso atliekų yra susikaupę per 50 mln. tonų, atliekų kalnai užima 85 ha žemės, kai kurių atliekų kalnų aukštis siekia iki 60 m. ir daugiau, neperdirbamų fosfogipso atliekų sąvartynas kiekvienais metais padidėja keletą hektarų. Fosfogipso atliekos teršia aplinką, gruntinius vandenis, todėl jų perdirbimas į techninius dalykus yra perspektyvus dalykas.Phosphogypsum, which basically consists of hemihydrate calcium sulfate with a small admixture of phosphates, is formed in the production process of phosphoric acid by treating apatites with sulfuric acid. Siekiant atskirti stambias mechanines priemaišas, fosfogipso atliekas sijoja vibraciniu sietu. Persijotą fosfogipsą paduoda į šlambaseiną ir išplaka su vandeniu. Pulpą iš šlambaseino siurbliu paduoda į smėlio sėsdintuvą, vėliau j reaktorių, kuriame yra kalkių suspensija. Fosfogipso pulpą reaktoriuje išlaiko tol, kol pulpos pH padidės iki 7,0-7,5. Pulpos neutralizavimo procesą kontroliuoja pH-metru. Neutralizuotą fosfogipso pulpą siurbliu paduoda į rutulinį malūną, kuriame fosfogipsą mala iki reikiamo smulkumo. Sumaltą fosfogipso pulpą siurbliu paduoda į vakuumfiltrą. Fosfogipso atliekos iki rišimosi pradžios transportavimo įrenginiu paduodamos į maišytuvą, į kurį fosfogipsui neutralizuoti paduodamos ir negesintos maltos kalkės. Fosfogipso atliekos iki rišimosi pradžios maišytuve neutarlizuojamos iki pH 7,5-8,5. Fosfogipso iki rišimosi pradžios neutralizavimo procesas kontroliuojamas automatiniu pH-metru, matuojant ir užrašant fosfogipso neutralizavimo pH diagramą. Neutralizuotos fosfogipso atliekos iki rišimosi pradžios paduodamos į sukamąją krosnį, kurioje 25-30 min. 550-600 °C šilumos/karščio poveikyje suardoma medžiagos kristalo gardelė, taip eliminuojant pushidračio kalcio rišimosi savybę. Pagamintas ekologiškas mineralinis užpildas ataušinamas iki 40-50 °C temperatūros standartiniame sukamosios krosnies aušintuve. Ataušintas ekologiškas mineralinis užpildas standartiniu ištaravimo-sukrovimo ant padėklų įrenginiu ištaruojamas po 25 kg.
