본 발명은 물체의 윤곽선을 이용한 움직임 벡터 추정장치에 관한 것으로, 입력된 현재 영상 프레임의 블럭에서 물체의 윤곽선을 검출하여 출력하는 에지검출부(10)와; 상기 물체의 윤곽선을 기준으로 그 주위 영역을 결정하여 출력하는 영역결정부(20); 입력된 현재 영상 프레임을 딜레이시켜 이전 영상 프레임을 출력하는 프레임메모리(30)및; 상기 영역결정부(20)로부터 입력된 영역과 가장 일치하는 영역을 상기 프레임메모리(30)로부터 입력된 이전 영상 프레임의 탐색 구간에서 탐색하여 가장 일치하는 영역을 추정하고 그 위치로부터 움직임 벡터를 추정하여 출력하는 움직임 벡터 추정부(40)를 포함하여 구성되어, 물제의 윤곽선을 중심으로 움직임 벡터를 추정함으로써 움직임 벡터를 추정하기 위한 연산량을 줄여 소프트웨어적으로 구현할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 적은 양의 움직임 추정 전용 칩을 사용하여 하드웨어적으로 구현할 수 있는 것이다.The present invention relates to a motion vector estimating apparatus using an outline of an object, comprising: an edge detector 10 for detecting and outputting an outline of an object in a block of an input current image frame; An area determiner 20 which determines and outputs an area around the object based on the contour of the object; A frame memory 30 for delaying an input current video frame and outputting a previous video frame; The region that most matches the region input from the region determiner 20 is searched in the search section of the previous image frame input from the frame memory 30 to estimate the region that most matches, and the motion vector is estimated from the position.
