본 발명은 웨이브렛 변환을 이용한 영상 부호화장치에 관한 것으로, 고주파의 대각선 엣지 성분 즉, D 영역을 가변 블럭 부호화하여 벡터 양자화하는 제 1영상 신호 처리부 (510)와, 고주파의 수평신호 엣지성분, 즉 H 영역을 가변 블럭 부호화하여 벡터 양자화 하는 제 2영상 신호 처리부 (520)와, 고주파의 수직 신호 엣지 성분, 즉 V 영역을 가변블럭 부호화하여 벡터 양자화하는 제3영상 신호 처리부(530)와, 저주파의 대각선 엣지 성분 , 즉 LD 영역, 저주파의 수평 신호 엣지 성분, 즉, LH 영역, 및 저주파의 수직 신호 엣지 성분, 즉, LV영역은 가변 블럭 부호화하여 벡터 양자화 하고, 엣지 성분이 없는 저주파 성분, 즉, LL 영역은 이산 여현 변환 (DCT)하는 제 4영상 신호 처리부 (540)를 포함하고 구성되어, 엣지 (edge) 부분의 열화 현상을 방지하고 저주파 성분에 작은 비트를 할당하여 보다 효율적으로 영상 압축을 할 수 있도록 한 것이다.The present invention relates to an image encoding apparatus using wavelet transform.
