Abstract
The method includes a selection step for removing a part of upper and lower portions of a N line video signal in the aspect ratio of 4:3 and selecting a L line video signal to be displayed on 16:9 screen, a video signal converting step for vertically interpolating the selected video signal in the ratio of N/L (1 DN/L D4/3) to configure N line video signal having the same number of scanning line as that of the input 4:3 video signal, a compression processing step for horizontally time-compressing the video signal vertically interpolated at the time compression rate of x/16(3/4 Dx/16 D1), and a video displaying step of adding side panel to the time-compressed video signal and displaying it on 16:9 screen.
