본 발명은 종회비 4:3영상신호를 종횡비 16:9의 모니터에 표시하기 위한 티 브이(TV)화면 종횡비 변환 방법과 장치에 관한 것이다.The present invention relates to a TV screen aspect ratio conversion method and apparatus for displaying an aspect ratio 4: 3 image signal on a monitor having an aspect ratio of 16: 9.
종래의 방법으로서 4:3영상신호를 수평 방향으로 시간 압축한 후 16:9모니터에 표시하는 방법은 16:9화면비를 갖는 모니터에 표시되는 영상이 수평 방향으로 1/4만큼 사이드 패널(영상이 나타나지 않는 영역) 처리되기 때문에 실제로 영상이 표시되는 영역이 수평 방향으로 볼 때 사이드 패널만큼 감축되는 문제점이 있고, 4:3영상신호를 수직 방향으로 4/3보간비로 보간(Interpolation)처리 하고 보관된 전체 영상신호의 주사선중에서 3/4의 주사선만을 16:9화면에 표시해 주는 방법은 화면의 수직 방향으로 25%에 해당하는 영상 정보의 손실(NTSC의 경우 120개의 주사선)이 발생되는 문제점이 있으며, 4:3영상신호를 16:9화면에 그대로 표시하는 방법은 사이드패널이 발생하지 않지만 영상이 수평방향으로 33.3%확장된 형태가 되기 때문에 시청에 장애가 느껴질 만큼 화상이 왜곡되는 문제점이 있다.The conventional method is to time-compress a 4: 3 video signal in a horizontal direction and then display it on a 16: 9 monitor.
