Claims (21)

(a) saturated or unsaturated (C ₆ -C ₂₄ ) fatty acids, polyols having 2 to 18 carbon atoms and aliphatic or aromatic dicarboxylic acids or anhydrides thereof, or (C ₁₂ -C ₂₄ ) fatty alcohols or alkoxylated (C _12- C ₂₄ ) reaction products or sulfonated reaction products of fatty alkoxy and dicarboxylic acids or anhydrides thereof, (b) synthetic aromatic tanning agents or non-condensed precursors thereof, or alkali metal salts or ammonium salts thereof, and as further optional components, c) water soluble krum, aluminum, iron or zirconium salts or mixtures thereof and (d) modifiers. 2. The leather aftertreatment composition according to claim 1, wherein in component (a) the fatty acid has 12 to 14 carbon atoms, the polyol has 2 to 12 carbon atoms and the fatty alcohol has 12 to 24 carbon atoms. The leather aftertreatment composition according to claim 1, wherein component (a) is a reaction product of glycerol, oleic acid and maleic anhydride. The leather post-treatment composition of claim 1 wherein component (a) is the reaction product of stearyl alcohol and maleic anhydride. The leather aftertreatment composition according to claim 1, wherein component (b) is a synthetic anionic aromatic tanning agent or a non-condensed precursor thereof. 6.
