종래에는 버섯 재배의 배지로서 참나무와 미류나무의 원목에 구멍을 파서 그 구멍에 균사를 활착시켜 배양하였기 때문에 배지 자체가 경화되어 있어서 활착시간이 장기화되고 수분조절 역시 적절하게 유지할수 없었으며 근래에 와서는 볏짚을 배지로 하여서 재배하고 있는 예로서는 즉 0.5-1cm로 세절한 볏짚과 활엽수,톱밥, 쌀겨, 탄산칼슘, 베노밀, 수분 및 접착제 등의 배합물을 일정크기의 틀에 넣어 10-25kg/cm2의 압력 하에 성형한 후 120-130℃의 온도로 한 시간 살균하여 열풍 건조후 무균상의 P.P. 필름에 포장한 느타리 버섯 재배용 포트 제조법(공고번호 : 82-530)이 알려져 있으나, 여기에서 100-150몬이나 되는 압력으로 배합물을 가압 성형하게 되면 배지 자체가 마치 목질(木質)과 같이 경화되어 버리므로 수분 침투가 불량하여 모세관작용이 미약하게 되는 관계로 종균 활착이 원목을 사용하였을 때와 같이 매우 느리게 되며, 배지를 120-130℃의 온도에서 한 시간 정도 잡균을 살균한다고 하지만 일반적인 배지 가열방법으로는 100-130℃까지 가열하기가 어렵고, 가열시간 역시 한 시간은 정상적인 살균온도가 되지 못하며 접착제로서 밀가루 풀을 사용한 것은 잡균번식을 증가시켜 균사활착에 막대한 지장을 초래하게 되는 등 실로 그 폐단이 허다하였다. 이와같은 폐단을 시정하기 위하여 연구한 본원은 비교적 목질과 같이 경화되어 있는 볏짚을 압착 로울러에서 압착하여 0.5cm 두께의 연화배지용 소재를 만들어 균사의 침투와 수분 함유를 용이하게 하므로서 균사활착이 매우 빠르게 되며 이렇게 연화된 볏짚을 가로와 세로로 교차되게 두께가 5-l0cm 정도까지 적고를 반복한 다음 면사로 엮어 짜므로서 균사활착시 산소 공급통로가 구성되어 심층부까지 배지 수분함량을 70-80%까지 적이 유지할 수 있기 때문에 균사의 활착도 배지 심층까지 균일하게 활착하게 되어 조기 재배하고 수확할 수 있도록 되어 있는 바, 그 공정을 들어 상술하면 다음과 같다.Conventionally, as a medium for mushroom cultivation, holes in oak and rapeseed trees were dug and cultured by sticking mycelia to the holes, so the medium itself was hardened, so the sticking time was prolonged and moisture control could not be maintained properly.
