유중수형 (Water in Oil) 제형은 외상이 유상, 내상이 수상으로 구성된 에멀젼 타입의 제형으로 일반 수중유형 에멀젼과는 차별화된 밀착감, 영양감 및 우수한 보습 지속력을 부여한다는 장점이 있다. 이러한 특징은 기초 화장품에 적용하기는 좋으나, 제조 시 교반 속도, 시간 및 온도 등에 민감하여 점도가 낮을 경우 물과 오일이 분리되기 쉽기 때문에 안정화가 까다로운 제형이다. 그렇기 때문에 시중에 출시된 저점도 유중수형 스킨케어 제품들은 유화력이 뛰어난 PEG (Polyethylene glycol) 계열의 유화제가 사용되고 있으며, 이를 배제하고 제형을 안정화하기가 쉽지는 않다.The water-in-oil formulation is an emulsion-type formulation consisting of an oil phase on the outer layer and a water phase on the inside. If only one of the emulsifier and the auxiliary emulsifier is used, the emulsifying power of the emulsifier holding the water and oil phases is weakened and separation occurs, and stability may be affected depending on the type and content of the auxiliary emulsifier and main emulsifier.
