민들레는 국화과의 여러해살이풀로, 뿌리는 깊고 땅속줄기에서 잎이 무더기로 나며, 봄에 노란 두상화가 피고, 뿌리와 잎, 꽃, 줄기 모두가 약용으로 쓰이며, 어린 잎을 나물로도 먹는다. 꽃이 피기 전에 따서 말린 것을 포공영이라고 하여 한방에서 해열, 발한제로 약용했으며, 비타민 A와 같은 화학구조를 가지고 있어서 야맹증의 치료약으로도 이용되며 변비에도 효과가 있다. 민들레에는 이눌린, 팔미틴, 세로틴 등 특수성분이 함유되어 되어 있으며, 민들레의 어린 싹에는 비타민 B1, C가 많이 함유되어 있어 신체에 매우 유용한 효능을 가진다.Dandelion is a perennial plant of Asteraceae.
