Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a non-asbestos friction material composition, and more particularly, to a non-asbestos friction material composition which is environmentally friendly, does not contain antimony, an emulsion or acicular potassium titanate, and has excellent braking performance and excellent wear resistance.
Brake pads for automobiles function to decelerate or stop a driving vehicle by causing friction with a counterpart disc to convert kinetic energy into thermal energy. More than 200 raw materials can be used for the friction material having such a function, and are manufactured using 10 to 30 kinds of raw materials.
Friction materials are largely divided into fibers, resins, and fillers, and again, fillers may be classified into inorganic fillers and organic fillers. Raw materials used in friction materials have been used regardless of whether they are environmentally friendly, but when looking at recent development trends, the use of environmentally friendly raw materials is a mainstream.
The representative environmentally friendly friction material development is the development of non-asbestos friction material using asbestos replacement fiber without using asbestos used as fiber. Friction materials using asbestos replacement fibers are called non-asbestos friction materials (NAO, Non-Asbestos Organics), and are classified into semi-metallic, low steel, and non-steel.
Asbestos replacement fibers are as follows.
Metal fiber: Iron fiber, copper fiber, aluminum fiber
Inorganic Fibers: Rockwool, Haepostone, etc.
Organic fiber: aramid fiber, acrylic fiber, cellulose fiber, carbon fiber, etc.
The friction performance required for automobiles is that braking performance and abrasion resistance are stabilized at high speed and high temperature as well as at low temperature. In particular, antimony compounds of antimony oxide and antimony emulsion are used to prevent abrasion of the disc rotor due to face damage caused by metal catchup of friction materials at high temperatures. In addition, such an antimony compound has an effect of improving wear resistance at high temperature braking.
However, the most representative harmful raw materials used in friction materials are antimony compounds of antimony oxide (Sb 2 O 3 ) and antimony emulsion (Sb 2 S 3 ). In recent years, the development of eco-friendly friction materials has been concentrated as social concerns are raised. Previously, we focused on developing asbestos substitute friction materials, but recently, we are developing products considering not only raw material but also structural aspects of raw material.
On the other hand, acicular potassium titanate is widely used in friction materials because of its excellent heat resistance and abrasion resistance. However, since the structure has a whisker-like structure, there is a problem that is harmful to the human body in case of inhalation of safety and hygiene, and research into the replacement of plate-like potassium titanate or the production of a new structure of potassium titanate is being actively conducted.
(Tony Addona and Hidefumi Konnai, SAE Paper 2004-01-2782). In particular, needle-like potassium titanate (Potassium Titanate) has not only a small particle but also a structurally fine needle-like structure, and a lot of studies have recently been made to change the structure (Tony Addona and Hidefumi Konnai, SAE Paper 2004-01-2782). ).

5) Japanese Unexamined Patent Publication No. 11-228300 is a manufacturing patent related to Aspect Ratio (fiber length / fiber diameter) of potassium hexatitanate, and describes a method of producing potassium hexatitanate having a fiber diameter of 3.5 µm or more and an
6) Korean Patent Laid-Open Publication No. 1999-029472 describes a sintered friction material containing a copper-based metal as a matrix and containing specific additives, graphite, and potassium titanate as friction modifiers.
Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a non-asbestos friction material composition which is environmentally friendly and excellent in braking performance and excellent in wear resistance by not using structurally harmful antimony compounds and needle-like potassium titanate in order to solve the conventional problems as described above. To provide.
However, technical problems to be achieved by the present invention are not limited to the above-mentioned problems, and other technical problems will be clearly understood by the average technician from the following description.
In order to achieve the above object, the present invention comprises a macro silica, and at least one silica comprising micro silica, the total content of the silica is characterized in that 2 to 10% by volume based on 100% by volume of the composition It provides a non-asbestos friction material composition.
The non-asbestos friction material composition according to the present invention does not contain harmful substances such as antimony (Sb) compounds or emulsions (sulfur compounds) and acicular potassium titanate, and has excellent braking performance and excellent environmental resistance.
Sb 2 O 3 widely used as a flame retardant among antimony compounds serves to improve abrasion resistance, but is known to be a carcinogenic substance and is prohibited from use. Also, acicular potassium titanate is widely used in friction materials because of its excellent heat resistance and abrasion resistance. However, the structure has a whisker-like structure, which is harmful to the human body for safety and hygiene when inhaled, and is replaced with a plate-like potassium titanate, or potassium titanate having a new structure has been manufactured. When using small raw materials, the worker inhales during work, which is harmful to the human body for safety and hygiene, and also causes a loss of raw materials due to the scattering of the raw materials, thereby lowering the friction performance.
The present invention produces environmentally friendly friction materials by applying one or more silica and plate-like potassium titanate, including macro silica and micro silica, to a non-asbestos friction material composition.
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in more detail.
The present invention provides a non-asbestos friction material composition comprising macro silica and at least one silica including micro silica.
The total content of the silica is 2 to 10% by volume based on 100% by volume of the composition. If the total content of the silica is less than 2% by volume, the frictional performance improvement is insignificant, and if it exceeds 10% by volume, the friction coefficient increases a lot, causing noise and abrasion resistance.
Silica (SiO 2 ) has high hardness and is stable to heat and is mainly used to improve friction performance in friction materials. However, when the particles are large and used a lot, there is a problem in that the damage to the face is severe and not only the damage of the counterpart disc or the drum is severe but also noise is generated.
FIG. 1 is a scanning electron microscope photograph showing the structure of the micro silica, and FIG. 2 is a scanning electron microscope photograph showing the structure of the micro silica.
As shown in Figures 1 to 2 it can be seen that the particles of the macro silica is very large compared to the micro silica.
In the present invention, it is possible to obtain an effect of increasing friction performance and wear resistance by using macro silica and micro silica having different particle sizes.
In particular, the micro silica is a synthetic silica that is much smaller than 500 nm even at a magnification of 10,000 times or more, and the macrosilica is a silica obtained by pulverizing natural silica gemstone with a large silica that can be seen at a 300 times magnification. Such particles can obtain the effect according to the present invention by the mutual synergy effect of other silica.
On the other hand, the non-asbestos friction material composition of the present invention is to further include a plate-like potassium titanate.
The content of the plate-like potassium titanate is 1 to 10% by volume based on 100% by volume of the composition. When the content of the plate-like potassium titanate is in the above range, there is an effect of improving braking performance and wear resistance.
FIG. 3 is a scanning electron micrograph showing a needle-like potassium titanate, and FIG. 4 is a scanning electron micrograph showing the structure of a plate-like potassium titanate.
It can be seen that the needle-like potassium titanate is very small as compared to the plate-like potassium titanate as shown in FIGS. 3 to 4. For reference, acicular potassium titanate measurement magnification was 2,000 times, whereas plate-shaped potassium titanate measurement magnification was measured under conditions of 200 times.

As shown in Table 2, the friction characteristics of the environmentally friendly friction material produced using two kinds of silica, such as micro silica without using acicular potassium titanate and antimony compound as a representative harmful substance to the non-asbestos friction material (Examples 1 to 3) Showed better performance than the conventional antimony compound friction material (Comparative Example 1).

In addition, the wear amount of the environmentally friendly friction material is less than the conventional antimony compound used friction material has improved wear resistance.
