1 shows a schematic configuration of a transflective liquid crystal display device disclosed in US Patent No. 6,654,087. Referring to the drawings, the transflective liquid crystal display device includes a
This configuration basically divides the cells in half and uses them in the transmission and reflection modes, respectively, and there is a problem that the resolution is lowered and the brightness of each mode is lowered. In addition, the
2A and 2B show a schematic configuration of a liquid crystal display device disclosed in US Patent No. 6,710,831. Referring to the drawings, the liquid crystal display device includes a
In such a configuration, in general, in the case of CLC, the characteristic of the incident light is sensitive to the angle or wavelength, so that multiple layers are required to secure reflection characteristics over the entire visible region, and a glass substrate and linearly polarized light for forming a cholesteric liquid crystal cell. Since the

3A, 3B, 4A, and 4B show a schematic configuration of a switchable liquid
The active
When no external magnetic field is applied, the total magnetization of the active
On the other hand, when an external magnetic field is not applied to the active
In addition, when the active
In addition, the transmission axis of the
When the switchable liquid
3A and 3B show a path of light corresponding to pixel off and pixel on, respectively, when the switchable liquid
4A and 4B show the paths of light corresponding to pixel off and pixel on, respectively, when the switchable liquid
Hereinafter, the active
5 shows a schematic configuration of an active
Referring to the drawings, the active
The
On the other hand, as shown in the drawing, when the current I is supplied to the
As the magnetic material constituting the
FIG. 6 is a graph showing the magnetic field strength according to the depth of the
For a more detailed configuration of the active
The switching type liquid
As described above, the liquid crystal display device according to the present invention has the feature that the entire liquid crystal cell can be selectively switched to the transmission mode or the reflection mode by employing an active reflective polarizer.
