Abstract

PURPOSE: A ball switch portable terminal is provided to input desiring data by using rotation and movement by a ball of a ball switch instead of a keypad, so that the portable terminal is minimized. CONSTITUTION: A case includes a lower wall and an upper wall having an aperture. A ball(204) is rotatively arranged inside the case and is projected upward through the aperture. A coordinate value providing unit(206) contacting with the ball(204) is synchronously rotated as the ball(204) is rotated, and provides a coordinate value according to the synchronous rotation. A memory(208) stores at least one coordinate value indicating rotation information of the ball(204) and at least one input data corresponding to the coordinate value. A selector(210) installed in a lower part of the ball(204) is operated by pressing the ball(204) upon the selection of a user, to select a coordinate value provided by the coordinate value providing unit(206). A detector(212) detects input data corresponding to the coordinate value selected by the selector(210), on the basis of the coordinate value stored in the memory(208) and the at least one input data. And a display unit(214) displays the coordinate value stored in the memory(208) and a pointer indicating a current position of the ball(204) at one side on a screen, and displays the input data detected by the detector(212) at the other side on the screen.
