Abstract
A character input method of a portable terminal having a floating type character input device of the present invention provides a floating type character recognition method in which it can be differentiated if a finger is in contact while a character pattern is inputted or a finger is moved to input a new character pattern so that each character pattern thereof can be recognized. The character input method enables aged persons unacquainted with a button type character input method to easily input characters into the portable terminal.
