Description
The present invention relates to a power supply circuit and a battery pack including the same. More specifically, when some of the plurality of battery cells included in the battery pack are in an abnormal state, only battery cells in a normal state are selectively used. , relates to a power supply circuit that maintains power supply to a load and a battery pack including the same.
Recently, as the demand for portable electronic products such as laptops, video cameras, and portable phones has rapidly increased, and as the development of electric vehicles, energy storage batteries, robots, and satellites has begun, the need for high-performance batteries capable of repeated charging and discharging has increased. Research is actively underway.
Among these, lithium batteries have little memory effect compared to nickel-based batteries, so they can be freely charged and discharged, and have a low self-discharge rate. It is attracting attention due to its extremely low and high energy density.
The smallest unit of a battery can be called a battery cell, and a plurality of battery cells connected in series can form a battery module. Additionally, a battery pack can be formed by connecting multiple battery modules in series or parallel.
Battery packs mounted on electric vehicles, etc. generally include a plurality of battery modules connected to each other in series or parallel. The status of each battery module included in this battery pack and the battery cells included therein are monitored by a controller equipped with a BMS (Battery Management System). The controller may output signals for controlling balancing operations, cooling operations, charging operations, discharging operations, etc., based on the monitored state.
Meanwhile, individual battery modules and/or battery cells included in the battery pack may deviate from their normal state due to various causes such as the usage environment or external shock. 'Normal state' means a state in which charging and discharging operations are possible without safety problems. At this time, a battery cell that is out of a normal state can be said to be in an ‘abnormal state’. For example, if a battery cell is overheated, overcharged, or overdischarged, it may be said to be in an abnormal state. As another example, when the power line connected to a battery cell is disconnected, the battery cell may be said to be in an abnormal state, regardless of whether the battery cell itself is abnormal.
As related prior art, Korean Patent Publication No. 10-2012-0051464 (hereinafter referred to as ‘Patent Document 1’) and Korean Patent Publication No. 10-2013-0040575 (hereinafter referred to as ‘Patent Document 2’) has been initiated.
The present invention was devised to solve the above problems, and it is possible to individually determine whether a plurality of battery cells included in a battery pack are in a normal state and to selectively remove some battery cells in an abnormal state from the battery pack. The purpose is to provide a power supply circuit configured to do so and a battery pack including the same.
