Description
본 발명은 광촉매 물질에 관한 것으로, 구체적으로, 선택적 광촉매 특성을 갖는 세륨 산화물 나노입자를 포함하는 광촉매 및 그 제조 방법에 관한 것이다.
광촉매 반응은 태양 에너지를 이용하여 물을 직접 광분해하기 때문에 차세대의 대체 에너지원인 수소를 생산하는데 사용될 수 있으며, 휘발성 유기화합물, 각종 악취, 폐수, 난분해성 오염물질 및 환경 호르몬의 분해, 세균, 박테리아의 살균 등과 같은 환경 처리를 위해 사용될 수 있다. 특히 환경 처리를 위한 광촉매 응용에는 공기 또는 물에 포함된 오염물질의 제거기능 향상을 시도한 연구가 주를 이루고 있다.
광촉매 반응이 가능한 물질로는 TiO2, ZnO, Nb2O5, WO3, SnO2, ZrO2,Ru2+, CdS, ZnS, CeO2 등이 알려져 있으며, 이러한 광촉매들은 광이 조사되면 전자의 이동이 일어나고, 이때 발생된 전자와 전공은 주변의 산소나 수소 혹은 OH- 등과 여러 가지 반응을 하게 되며 생성된 물질들은 강한 산화력을 가지고 있어 실내의 유해가스를 분해할 수 있다. 이 중에서도 광촉매 물질로 폭넓게 사용되고 있는 것은 반도체 물질인 이산화티타늄(TiO2)이다. 이산화티타늄은 자외선을 받아 강한 산화력을 가지는 히드록시 라디칼(OH·)과 슈퍼옥사이드(O2 -)를 생성하여 유기물 및 물을 분해하는데 우수한 특성을 나타내고 있다.
최근, 촉매 성능 향상과 물질 재활용의 관점에서 선택성(약산화, mild oxidation)을 갖는 촉매의 개발에 대한 관심이 증가하고 있다.
이에, 본 발명의 기술적 과제는 이러한 점에서 착안된 것으로 선택적 광촉매 특성을 가지며 촉매 성능이 향상된 세륨 산화물 나노입자를 포함하는 광촉매 및 그 제조 방법을 제공하는 것에 있다.
상기한 본 발명의 목적을 실현하기 위한 일 실시예에 따른 광촉매는, 표면에 히드록시기(-OH) 가지며, CeO2-x(x는 0.4 내지 0.6)로 나타내지는 화학적 구성을 갖는 세륨 산화물 나노입자를 포함한다.
일 실시예에 따르면, 상기 세륨 산화물 나노입자는, 방향족 화합물을 선택적으로 광분해 가능하다.
일 실시예에 따르면, 상기 세륨 산화물 나노입자의 직경은 10nm 내지 100nm이다.
본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 광촉매 제조 방법은, 세륨 산화물 나노입자를 합성하는 단계; 및 상기 세륨 산화물 나노입자를 pH 12 내지 pH 14의 범위에서 염기 처리하는 단계를 포함하며, 상기 염기 처리된 세륨 산화물 나노입자는 표면에 히드록시기(-OH) 가지며, CeO2-x(x는 0.4 내지 0.6)로 나타내지는 화학적 구성을 갖는다.
일 실시예에 따르면, 상기 세륨 산화물 나노입자의 염기 처리는 200℃ 이상에서 수행된다.
일 실시예에 따르면, 상기 세륨 산화물 나노입자의 염기 처리는 5시간 내지 10시간 동안 수행된다.
일 실시예에 따르면, 상기 세륨 산화물 나노입자를 합성하는 단계는, 세륨 산화물 전구체를 용액 내에서 가열한다.
본 발명의 실시예들에 의하면, 선택적 광촉매 특성을 갖는 세륨 산화물 나노입자를 얻을 수 있다.

이하, 첨부한 도면들을 참조하여, 본 발명의 바람직한 실시예를 보다 상세하게 설명하고자 한다.
도 1은 본 발명의 일 실시예에 의한 세륨 산화물 나노입자의 제조 방법을 도시한 순서도이다.
도 1을 참조하면, 먼저 세륨 산화물 나노입자를 준비한다(S10). 일 실시예에 따르면, 상기 세륨 산화물 나노입자는 CeO2를 포함한다.
상기 CeO2 나노입자는, 종래에 알려진 다양한 방법으로 얻어질 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 CeO2 나노입자는 세륨 전구체의 졸-겔 반응을 통해 얻어질 수 있다.
예를 들어, 상기 세륨 전구체는, 세륨(III) 아세테이트 하이드레이트, 세륨(III) 아세틸아세토네이트 하이드레이트, 세륨(III) 카보네이트 하이드레이트, 세륨(IV) 하이드록사이드, 세륨(III) 플루오라이드, 세륨(IV) 플루오라이드, 세륨(III) 클로라이드, 세륨(III) 클로라이드 헵타하이드레이트, 세륨(III) 브로마이드, 세륨(III) 아이오다이드, 세륨(III) 나이트레이트 헥사하이드레이트, 세륨(III) 옥살레이트 하이드레이트, 세륨(III) 설페이트, 세륨(III) 설페이트 하이드레이트, 세륨(IV) 설페이트 또는 이들의 조합을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 세륨 전구체는 용액 상에서 반응할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 반응 용액은 유기 용매 및 계면 활성제를 더 포함할 수 있다.
예를 들어, 상기 유기 용매는 자일렌, 톨루엔, 메시틸렌, 옥틸 에테르, 부틸 에테르, 헥실 에테르, 데실 에테르, 피리딘, 디메틸설폭사이드, 디메틸포름아미드, 옥탄올, 데칸올, 옥탄,데칸, 도데칸, 테트라데칸, 헥사데칸 또는 이들의 조합을 포함할 수 있다.
예를 들어, 상기 계면 활성제는, 세틸트리메틸암모늄브로마이드(CTAB), 옥틸트리메틸암모늄브로마이드(OCTAB), 도데실트리메틸암모늄브로마이드(DTAB)와 같이, 8 내지 25개의 탄소로 이루어진 알킬트리메틸암모늄염((CH3)3RNX, R은 C8 ~ C25, X는 Br, Cl, I) 계열의 계면활성제; 올레일아민(Oleylamine), 옥틸아민(octylamine), 헥사데실아민(Hexadecylamine), 옥타데실아민(Dctadecylamine)과 같이, 6 내지 20개의 탄소로 이루어진 알킬아민(alkyl amine(RNH2)계 계면활성제; (에틸렌 옥사이드)20(프로필렌 옥사이드)70(에틸렌 옥사이드)20과 같은 폴리에틸렌옥사이드(poly(ethylene oxide, PEO)-폴리프로필렌옥사이드(poly(propylene oxide, PPO)-폴리에틸렌옥사이드 계열의 폴리(알킬렌 옥사이드) 삼중공중합체(poly(alkylene oxide) triblock copolymer); 불포화지방산(올레익산(C18), 리놀레산(C18))과 포화 지방산(라우릭산(C12), 미리스틱산(C14), 팔미틱산(C16), 스테아릭산(C18))을 포함한 C12 ~ C18 지방산의 알칼리염 또는 이들의 조합을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 반응 용액은 적정한 온도로 가열될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 반응은 20℃ 내지 300℃에서 진행될 수 있으며, 상기 세륨 산화물 나노입자의 결정성을 증가시키기 위하여 100℃ 이상으로 가열되는 것이 바람직할 수 있다.
예를 들어, 상기 세륨 산화물 나노입자의 직경은 10nm 내지 100nm일 수 있다.
다음으로, 상기 세륨 산화물 나노입자를 산 처리 또는 염기 처리한다(S20). 일 실시예에 따르면, 상기 세륨 산화물 나노입자는 염기 처리된다.
상기 염기 처리에 의해 상기 세륨 산화물 나노입자의 산소 함량이 감소하고, 표면에서 산소 결함(oxygen vacancy)이 형성될 수 있다. 상기 산소 결함은, 용해된 산소의 흡착/환원 사이트를 제공하여 활성산소종(reactive oxygen species)을 생성할 수 있다.
일 실시예에 따르면, 상기 세륨 산화물 나노입자의 산소 결함을 조절함으로써 선택적 광촉매 특성을 얻을 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 세륨 산화물 나노입자의 화학적 구성은 CeO2-x로 나타내질 수 있으며, x는 0.05 내지 0.7일 수 있다. 상기 화학적 구성에 따라 산소 결함을 갖는 세륨 산화물 나노입자는 방향족 화합물을 선택적으로 분해할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 촉매 반응은 UV에 의해 진행될 수 있다.
바람직하게, x는 0.4 내지 0.6일 수 있다. 상기 세륨 산화물 나노입자에서 산소 함량이 과다할 경우, 분해 능력(촉매 성능)이 저하될 수 있다. 산소 함량이 과소할 경우, 선택성이 감소할 수 있다.
예를 들어, 상기 세륨 산화물 나노입자는 강염기에 의해 처리될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 염기 처리를 위한 pH 범위는 pH 12 내지 pH 14 일 수 있다. 일 실시예에 따르면, 상기 세륨 산화물 나노입자의 염기 처리는 약 200℃ 이상에서 수행될 수 있다. 또한, 염기 처리 반응은 1시간 내지 10시간 동안 수행될 수 있으며, 바람직하게 5시간 내지 10시간 동안 수행될 수 있다.
상기 pH가 12보다 낮거나, 처리 온도가 200℃보다 낮은 경우, 산소 결함이 충분히 형성되지 않음에 따라, 상기 세륨 산화물 나노입자의 촉매 활성이 저하될 수 있다.
통상의 세륨 산화물에서 산소 결함은 안정성이 낮아 빠르게 감소할 수 있다. 그러나, 본 발명의 실시예에 따라 제어된 산소 결함은 안정성이 높다. 따라서, 상기 산소 결함을 갖는 세륨 산화물 나노입자는 안정적으로 촉매 역할을 수행할 수 있다.
다른 실시예에서, 상기 세륨 산화물 나노입자는 질산 등에 의해 산처리될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 산 처리된 세륨 산화물 나노입자의 화학적 구성은 CeO2-x로 나타내질 수 있으며, x는 0.1 내지 0.2일 수 있다.
상기 세륨 산화물 나노입자는 광촉매로 사용될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 광촉매는 기체 또는 액체로부터 방향족 화합물과 같은 유기 화합물을 제거 하기 위한 공기 정화기, 정수기 등에 사용될 수 있다. 또한, 상기 세륨 산화물 나노입자는, 다른 촉매 활성을 갖는 촉매 물질들과 조합되어 사용될 수도 있다.
이하에서는, 구체적인 실시예와 실험을 통해 본 발명에 따른 세륨 산화물 나노입자의 효과를 살펴보기로 한다.
실시예 1 - 세륨 산화물 나노입자 염기 처리
수열 합성법으로 얻어진 평균 직경 약 25nm의 세륨 산화물 나노입자를 pH 약 13.5의 KOH 수용액과 혼합하여 3시간 동안 유지한 후, 오토클레이브에 넣고 220℃에서 7시간 동안 가열한 후, 반응 용액을 필터링하고 이중 증류수(DDW)로 세척하여 잔여물을 제거하였다.
실시예 2 - 세륨 산화물 나노입자 염기 처리
실시예 1과 동일한 세륨 산화물 나노입자를 약 pH 1.5의 질산 수용액과 혼합하여 3시간 동안 유지한 후, 오토클레이브에 넣고 220℃에서 7시간 동안 가열한 후, 반응 용액을 필터링하고 이중 증류수(DDW)로 세척하여 잔여물을 제거하였다.
도 2는 실시예 1(CeO2-B)과 실시예 2(CeO2-A)의 TEM-STEM 이미지이다. 아래의 표 1은 실시예 1과 실시예2의 EDS 성분 분석 결과를 나타낸다.

도 2 및 표 1을 참조하면, 실시예 1과 실시예 2의 세륨 산화물 나노입자는 외형적으로 유사하나 세륨과 산소의 함량비율이 차이나는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 계산된 실시예 1의 화학적 구성은 CeO1.515이고, 실시예 2의 화학적 구성은 CeO1.913이다.
도 3은 실시예 1(CeO2-B)과 실시예 2(CeO2-A)의 XPS 프로파일을 도시한다. 도 3에서 (a) 및 (b)는 실시예 2의 프로파일을 도시하고, (c) 및 (d)는 실시예 1의 프로파일을 도시한다. (a) 및 (c)는 O 1s 밴드를 나타내고, (b) 및 (d)는 Ce 3d 밴드를 나타낸다.
도 3을 참조하면, 실시예 1 및 실시예 2는 나노입자는 히드록시기(-OH)를 가지며, 실시예 2 보다 실시예 1에서 산소 결함(Oad) 및 Ce3+가 더 많음을 알 수 있다.
따라서, 화학 처리의 종류에 따라 세륨 산화물에 형성되는 산소 결함의 수가 다르며, 염기 처리의 경우에 산소 결함의 수가 크게 증가함을 알 수 있다.
도 4는 실시예 1(CeO2-B)과 실시예 2(CeO2-A)의 광촉매 분해능을 측정하여 도시한 그래프이다.
도 4의 실험은 (a) 4-클로로페놀(4-CP), (b) 페놀, (c) 카르바마제핀(carbamazepine, CBZ) (d) 2,4-디클로로페놀(2,4-DCP), (e) 푸르푸릴 알콜(furfuryl alcohol, FFA) 및 (f) 디클로로아세트산에 대한 광촉매 분해능을 측정한 것이며, 촉매 함량은 1.5g/L이고, pH는 7.0이고, 각 분해 대상 물질의 함량은, (b), (c), (d)에서 10μM, (f)에서 50μM, (a), (e)에서 100μM 인 조건에서 자외선에 의해 수행되었다.
도 4를 참조하면, 실시예 1 및 실시예 2의 세륨 산화물 나노입자는 방향족 화합물에 대하여 선택적으로 광촉매 분해능을 가지며, 실시예 1의 촉매 성능이 더 우수함을 알 수 있다.
도 5는 실시예 1의 페놀에 대한 광촉매 분해능을 측정하여 도시한 그래프이다. 도 5의 실험은, 촉매 함량은 1.5g/L이고, pH는 7.0이고, 페놀 함량은 10μM인 조건에서 수행되었다.
도 5를 참조하면, 산소가 없는 환경(Ar-saturation)에서 실시예 1의 분해능이 현저하게 감소하였다. 따라서, 용해된 산소가 전자 수용체의 역할을 하고 활성산소종 생성에 필요한 것으로 예상할 수 있다. 동일 실험에서 전자 수용체인 은 이온(Ag+)이 추가된 경우, 페놀 분해능이 증가하였다.
도 6은 실시예 1(CeO2-B), 실시예 2(CeO2-A) 및 비교예 1(TiO2)의 활성산소종 생성을 모니터링한 그래프이다. 도 6의 실험은 촉매 함량은 1.5g/L이고, pH는 7.0이고, (a) 벤조익산 함량은 10μM이고, (b) XTT 함량은 100μM이고, (c)산소 퍼지가 제공된 조건에서 수행되었다.
도 6의 실험에서, OH 라디칼을 탐지하기 위한 프로브 분자로서 벤조익산을 사용하였다. p-HBA(4-히드록시벤조익산)은, 벤조익산과 OH 라디칼과의 반응에 의한 결과로서 생성되며, HPLC(high performance liquid chromatography)에 의해 정량화되었다. O2 - 종은 XTT(2,3-bis-(2-methoxy-4-nitro-5-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium-5-carboxanilide)의 XTT formazan으로의 변환에 따란 색상 변화를 통해 모니터링 되었다. H2O2는 상대적으로 안정적인 활성산소종으로서 DPD 방법에 의해 측정되었다.
도 6을 참조하면, 실시예 1과 실시예 2에 있어서, OH 라디칼과 O2 - 생성의 차이는 크지 않았으나, H2O2 생성은 실시예 2 또는 비교예 1보다 실시예 1에서 훨씬 큰 것을 확인할 수 있다. 이는 실시예 1에서의 산소 결함이 O2에 대한 다중 전자 전달(multi-electron transfer) 역할을 하여 H2O2를 생성함으로써 전체 분해를 보다 효율적으로 만든 것임을 의미할 수 있다.
도 7은 실시예 1의 페놀에 대한 광촉매 분해능을 반복적으로 측정하여 도시한 그래프이다. 도 7의 실험은, 촉매 함량은 1.5g/L이고, pH는 7.0이고, 페놀 함량은 10μM인 조건에서 수행되었다.
도 7을 참조하면, 실시예 1의 세륨 산화물 나노입자는 광촉매 활성이 유지되어 재사용 가능함을 알 수 있다. 따라서, 실시예 1의 세륨 산화물 나노입자의 산소 결함은 통상적인 세륨 산화물의 산소 결함과 다르게 안정성을 가짐을 알 수 있다.
상기에서는 본 발명의 바람직한 실시예를 참조하여 설명하였지만, 해당 기술 분야의 숙련된 당업자는 하기의 특허 청구 범위에 기재된 본 발명의 사상 및 영역으로부터 벗어나지 않는 범위 내에서 본 발명을 다양하게 수정 및 변경시킬 수 있음을 이해할 수 있을 것이다.
본 발명에 따른 나노입자는 광촉매로 사용될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 광촉매는 액체로부터 방향족 화합물과 같은 유기 화합물을 제거하기 위한 정수기 등에 사용될 수 있다.
