Abstract
본 개시의 다양한 실시 예들에 따르면, 안테나 장치는, 유전체 기판의 일면에 형성된 방사 패턴; 상기 유전체 기판의 타면에 형성된 적어도 하나의 유닛 셀(unit cell)을 포함하는 인공 자기 도체층(artificial magnetic conductor layer); 및 상기 유닛 셀에 연결된 단락 핀(shorting pin)을 포함할 수 있으며, 상기 인공 자기 도체층은 상기 방사 패턴을 흐르는 신호 전류에 대하여 동위상의 유도 전류를 형성할 수 있다.
Description
본 개시는 안테나 장치에 관한 것으로서, 예컨대, 인공 자기 도체층을 포함하는 안테나 장치와 그를 구비하는 전자 기기에 관한 것이다.
무선 통신 기술이 발달함에 따라, 서로 다른 전자 기기 간에 데이터의 송수신, 공유가 가능해지고 있다. 예컨대, 디지털 카메라나 멀티미디어 재생기에 저장된 이미지 파일을 포함하는 멀티미디어 파일을 스마트 폰이나 노트북으로 직접 전송하는 것이 가능하다. 전자 기기 간 데이터 전송 기술은 의료 분야에서도 유용하게 활용될 수 있다. 예컨대, 신체에 부착하는 심전도 센서(electrocardiography sensor; ECG 센서)와 같은 의료용 전자 기기에서 확보되는 환자에 관한 정보를 개인용 컴퓨터, 이동통신 단말기 등으로 전송할 수도 있다. 이러한 무선 송수신은 대체로 와이파이(Wi-Fi) 기술에 기반하여 이루어지며 노트북 등의 컴퓨터, 스마트 폰과 같은 일부 제한된 전자 기기에 탑재되어 왔으나, 최근에는 게임기, 프린터, 텔레비전 등 다양한 기기에도 와이파이 기술이 탑재되고 있다.
휴대성이 요구되는 전자 기기나 신체 부착을 위한 기기는 사용자나 환자의 거부감을 줄이기 위해, 소형화되면서도 안정된 성능을 발휘할 수 있는 안테나 장치를 필요로 한다. 금속성 케이스를 사용하는 전자 기기, 예컨대, 소형 디지털 카메라는 미려한 외관을 가지지만, 케이스의 재질로 인해 안정된 안테나 성능을 확보하기 어렵다. 따라서 금속성 케이스의 일부분을 제거하여 무선 송수신의 안정성을 확보하기도 한다. 하지만 케이스의 일부분을 제거하는 것은, 금속성 케이스를 이용하여 미려한 외관을 미려하게 하는 효과를 반감시키게 된다. 신체에 부착하는 의료용 전자 기기는, 신체에 부착한 상태에서도 환자가 거부감을 느끼지 않는 것이 바람직할 것이며, 안테나 장치는 안정된 동작 특성을 발휘해야 할 것이다. ECG 센서용 안테나로 상용화된 40mm*25mm 크기의 보우타이 다이폴 안테나(Bowtie dipole antenna)는 신체에 부착하기 전에는 95%의 방사 효율을 나타내지만, 실제 사용 환경, 예컨대, 신체에 부착한 상태에서 방사 효율은 5%까지 낮아지게 된다.
상기와 같은 안테나 장치들은 충분한 크기로 제작된다면, 금속성 케이스 내부에 설치되거나 인체에 부착하는 등의 열악한 작동환경에서도 무선 송수신이 가능할 수 있다. 하지만, 앞서 언급한 바와 같이, 소형화된 전자 기기나 신체에 부착하는 기기에서는 사용자의 거부감을 줄여야 하기 때문에, 안정된 안테나 장치의 동작 특성을 확보하면서도 소형화, 경량화할 필요가 있다.
한편, 안테나 장치에서 방사체는 전기 도체의 접지면으로부터 신호 파장의 1/4 이상의 거리를 필요로 한다. 방사체와 전기 도체의 접지면이 신호 파장의 1/4보다 가까운 거리에 배치되면, 접지면의 표면에서 방사체에 흐르는 전류와 반대 방향으로 표면 전류가 유기되어 방사체의 신호 전류와 상쇄되어 안테나 장치가 동작하지 못하기 때문이다. 자기 도체는 특정 주파수에서 상당히 높은 저항을 갖는 개방회로의 기능을 하는 성분으로 작용하게 된다. 이는 전기 도체 상에 의도된 특정 단위의 셀 패턴을 주기적으로 배열하여 구현할 수 있으며, 이렇게 만들어진 자기 도체를 인공 자기 도체(artificial magnetic conductor: AMC)라 한다. 인공 자기 도체 상에 배치되는 방사체는 일반적인 안테나 장치의 방사체보다 접지면에 더 가까이 배치될 수 있다. 하지만, 특정 단위의 셀 패턴을 주기적으로 배열해야 하는 인공 자기 도체는 아직 소형화된 전자 기기나 신체에 부착하는 기기에 적용할 수 있을 정도로 소형화하는데 한계가 있는 실정이다.
인공 자기 도체를 이용한 안테나 장치는, 2011년 IEEE ICICS에 게재된 논문, “A Wideband High Gain Dipole EBG Reflector Antenna (P. Lau, etc.)”이나, 2009년 Antenna and Propagation Conference에 게재된 논문, "Ultra Thin Dipole Antenna backed by new planar artificial magnetic conductor (M. Al-Nuaimi etc.)" 등을 통해 개시된 바 있다.
상기한 논문들을 통해 개시된 안테나 장치는 7*7 배열의 유닛 셀 조합 또는 9*5 배열의 유닛 셀 조합으로 이루어진 인공 자기 도체를 이용한 구조로서, 가로*세로의 크기가 50mm*50mm를 초과하여 소형화된 전자 기기나 인체에 부착되는 의료용 전자 기기에 탑재하는데 한계가 있다.
이에, 본 개시는 다양한 실시 예들을 통해, 소형, 경량화된 안테나 장치 및 그를 구비하는 전자 기기를 제공하고자 한다.
또한, 본 개시는 다양한 실시 예들을 통해, 금속이나 인체에 근접하게 배치되는 등, 열악한 작동 환경에서도 안정된 성능을 발휘하는 안테나 장치 및 그를 구비하는 전자 기기를 제공하고자 한다.
본 개시의 다양한 실시 예들에 따르면, 안테나 장치는, 유전체 기판의 일면에 형성된 방사 패턴; 상기 유전체 기판의 타면에 형성된 적어도 하나의 유닛 셀(unit cell)을 포함하는 인공 자기 도체층(artificial magnetic conductor layer); 및 상기 유닛 셀에 연결된 단락 핀(shorting pin)을 포함할 수 있으며, 상기 인공 자기 도체층은 상기 방사 패턴을 흐르는 신호 전류에 대하여 동위상의 유도 전류를 형성할 수 있다.
상기와 같은 안테나 장치에 있어서, 상기 유닛 셀은 병렬 인덕턴스(inductance)와 직렬 캐패시턴스(capacitance)로 이루어진 공진 회로를 형성하는 금속 패턴으로 이루어질 수 있다.
본 개시의 다양한 실시 예들에 따르면, 상기 유닛 셀은, 제1 도체부 패턴; 상기 제1 도체부 패턴의 양단에 인접하게 각각 형성되는 제2 도체부 패턴; 및 상기 제1 도체부 패턴과 각각의 상기 제2 도체부 패턴 사이에 형성된 갭(gap)들을 포함할 수 있으며, 상기 안테나 장치는 상기 갭들을 통해 상기 제1, 제2 도체부 패턴 사이에 용량성 결합을 형성할 수 있다.
상기와 같은 안테나 장치에 있어서, 복수의 상기 제1, 제2 도체부 패턴들이 서로 번갈아 가며 배열되면서 용량성 결합을 형성할 수 있다.
이때, 상기 단락 핀은 상기 유닛 셀들의 배열의 일단에서 상기 제1, 제2 도체부 패턴 중 하나에 연결될 수 있다.
아울러, 상기 갭과 인접하는 다른 갭 사이에서 상기 제1 또는 제2 도체부 패턴은 접지부 및 유도성 결합을 제공할 수 있다.
본 개시의 다양한 실시 예들에 따른 안테나 장치를 구비하는 전자 기기는, 주회로 기판; 및 상기 주회로 기판 상에 배치되는 안테나 장치를 구비할 수 있으며,
상기 안테나 장치는, 상기 주회로 기판에 대면하게 배치되는 유전체 기판; 상기 유전체 기판의 일면에 형성된 방사 패턴; 상기 유전체 기판의 타면에 형성된 금속 패턴으로 이루어진 인공 자기 도체층(artificial magnetic conductor layer); 및 상기 인공 자기 도체층에 연결된 단락 핀(shorting pin)을 포함할 수 있다. 이때, 상기 단락 핀은 상기 인공 자기 도체층을 상기 주회로 기판으로 단락시킬 수 있다.
상기 인공 자기 도체층은 상기 주회로 기판과 대면하는 상기 유전체 기판의 한 면에 형성될 수 있다.
어떤 실시 예에서, 상기 인공 자기 도체층은, 제1 도체부 패턴과, 한 쌍의 제2 도체부 패턴들로 이루어지는 적어도 하나의 유닛 셀을 포함하고, 상기 제1, 제2 도체부 패턴은 용량성 결합을 형성할 수 있다.
이때, 상기 단락 핀은 상기 제1, 제2 도체부 패턴 중 하나를 상기 주회로 기판의 그라운드로 단락시킬 수 있다.
상기와 같은 안테나 장치에 있어서, 복수의 제1 도체부 패턴과, 복수의 제2 도체부 패턴이 서로 번갈아가며 직렬로 배열될 수 있다.
이때, 상기 단락 핀은 상기 제1, 제2 도체부 패턴들의 배열의 일단에서 상기 제1, 제2 도체부 패턴 중 하나를 상기 그라운드로 단락시킬 수 있다.
본 개시의 다양한 실시 예들에 따른 안테나 장치는 유전체 기판의 일면에 금속 패턴만으로 인공 자기 도체층을 형성하되, 단락 핀을 연결하여 인덕턴스(inductance) 성분을 보상함으로써, 소수의 유닛 셀만으로도 인공 자기 도체를 구성할 수 있다. 따라서 인공 자기 도체, 나아가서는 안테나 장치를 소형화하면서 안정된 동작 특성을 확보할 수 있다. 더욱이, 방사체를 인공 자기 도체 상에 배치함으로써, 금속성 케이스로 제작된 전자 기기의 내부에 배치되거나 인체에 인접한 위치에서 동작하더라도 안테나 장치의 안정된 방사 성능을 확보할 수 있다.

도 5와 도 6에 도시된 바와 같이, 본 개시의 다양한 실시 예들에 따른 안테나 장치(100)는 단락 핀(105)을 이용하여 인덕턴스 성분을 보상한 점에서 통상적인 안테나 장치(10)의 구조와 차이가 있다. 이러한 차이를 통해, 본 개시의 다양한 실시 예에 따른 안테나 장치(100)는 통상적인 안테나 장치(10)보다 소형화하면서도 개선된 방사 성능을 발휘할 수 있다.
알려진 인공 자기 도체 구조, 예컨대, 7*7 배열의 유닛 셀 조합 또는 9*5 배열의 유닛 셀 조합으로 이루어진 인공 자기 도체를 이용한 안테나 장치(10)는 66mm*66mm 또는 60mm*40mm의 가로*세로 크기를 가지고 있다. 본 개시의 다양한 실시 예들에 따른 안테나 장치(100)는 가로*세로*두께가 각각 18mm*6mm*1mm의 크기를 가짐으로써, 소형화하여 구성할 수 있게 된다. 여기서 상기 안테나 장치(100)의 두께는 유전체 기판의 두께를 의미한다.
도 4에서, 'R1'은 통상적인 크기를 가지면서 도 5에 도시된 구조로 구현된 안테나 장치(10)의 방사 효율을, 'P'는 본 개시의 다양한 실시 예들에 따른 안테나 장치(100)의 방사 효율을 각각 나타낸다. 아울러, 도 4에서, 'R2'는 도 5에 도시된 구조를 가지면서 단순히 크기만 줄인 안테나 장치의 방사 효율을 나타낸다.
도 4에서, R1과 R2를 비교해 보면, 통상적인 인공 자기 도체 구조를 활용한 안테나 장치(10)는 원하는 주파수 대역에서 충분한 방사 효율을 얻기 위해서는 일정한 크기, 예컨대, 66mm*66mm 정도의 가로*세로 크기가 요구됨을 알 수 있다. 이러한 안테나 장치(10)는 크기를 줄일 수는 있으나, 동일한 구조에서 크기만 줄이게 되면, R2를 통해 도시된 바와 같이, 공진 주파수에 상당한 왜곡이 발생하며, 방사 효율이 현저히 저하된다. 따라서 소형, 경량화가 요구되는 전자 기기, 예컨대, 이동통신 단말기나, 인체에 부착하여 사용되는 의료용 전자 기기, 예컨대, ECG 센서에는 통상적인 구조의 안테나 장치(10)를 설치하는 것은 적합하지 못하다.
본 개시의 다양한 실시 예들에 따른 안테나 장치(100)는 통상적인 안테나 장치(10)와 비교할 때, 더 작은 크기로 제작될 수 있음을 살펴본 바 있다. 예컨대, 본 개시의 다양한 실시 예들에 따른 안테나 장치는 가로*세로*두께가 각각 18mm*6mm*1mm의 크기로 제작될 수 있다.
도 4에서, R1과 P를 비교해 보면, 상기 안테나 장치(100)는, 방사 효율은 다소 저하되지만, 통상적인 안테나 장치(10)의 동작 주파수 대역에서 안정된 동작 특성이 확보됨을 알 수 있다. 이상적인 작동 환경에서, 본 개시의 다양한 실시 예들에 따른 안테나 장치(100)의 통상적이 안테나 장치(10)와 비교할 때 방사 효율이 다소 저하되지만, 실제 작동 환경, 예컨대, 인체에 부착되거나 금속성 케이스의 내부에 설치된 상태에서는 통상적인 안테나 장치(10)보다 개선된 방사 효율을 확보할 수 있다. 이를 도 7 내지 도 10을 통해 더 상세하게 살펴보기로 한다.
도 7은 본 개시의 다양한 실시 예들에 따른 안테나 장치(100)가 장착된 의료용 전자 기기를 나타내는 사시도이다. 도 8은 도 7에 도시된 안테나 장치(100)를 나타내는 측면도이다. 상기 의료용 전자 기기로는 ECG 센서(20)가 예시되어 있다. 상기 ECG 센서(20)는 커버 부재(21)의 내측면에 주회로 기판(109)과 상기 안테나 장치(100)를 배치한 구성으로서, 상기 주회로 기판(109)에 설치된 씨 클립(191)을 통해 상기 단락 핀(105)이 상기 인공 자기 도체층(103)을 상기 주회로 기판(109)에 단락시킬 수 있다. 상기 안테나 장치(100)를 상기 ECG 센서(20)에 장착한 상태에서, 상기 유전체 기판(101)과 주회로 기판(109) 사이의 간격은 3mm이고, 상기 유전체 기판(101)의 두께는 1mm로서, 상기 주회로 기판(109)의 일면에서 상기 안테나 장치(100)는 4mm의 높이를 가질 수 있다.
본 개시의 다양한 실시 예들에 따른 안테나 장치(100)가 장착된 ECG 센서(20)를 인체에 부착한 상태에서 측정된 방사 효율과, 통상적인 안테나 장치(10)가 장착된 ECG 센서를 인체에 부착한 상태에서 측정된 방사 효율이 하기의 [표 1]에 비교되어 있다.

[표 1]에 나타난 바와 같이, ECG 센서에 장착된 통상적인 안테나 장치는 인체에 부착된 상태에서 방사 효율이 5%까지 낮아짐을 알 수 있었다. 반면에, 본 개시의 다양한 실시 예들에 따른 안테나 장치(100)는, ECG 센서(20)가 인체에 부착된 상태에서도 대략 38%의 방사 효율을 유지할 수 있다. 따라서 실제 사용 환경에서 본 개시의 다양한 실시 예들에 따른 안테나 장치(100)는 더 안정된 동작 특성을 발휘할 수 있다.
도 9는 본 개시의 다양한 실시 예들에 따른 안테나 장치(100)가 장착된 전자 기기를 나타내는 사시도이다. 도 10은 도 9에 도시된 안테나 장치(100)를 나타내는 측면도이다.
도 9에 도시된 전자 기기는 디지털 카메라(30)가 예시되어 있으며, 상기 디지털 카메라(30)의 외관 케이스는 금속성 재질, 예컨대, 마그네슘이나 알루미늄 또는 그에 상당하는 합금 재질로 제작될 수 있다. 도 9는 상기 디지털 카메라(30)의 상단 부분을 개방한 모습을 도시하고 있으며, 아울러, 안테나 장치(100)는 유전체 기판을 도시하지 않고 유전체 기판의 일면과 타면에 각각 배치되는 방사 패턴(102)과 인공 자기 도체층(103)만 도시하고 있음에 유의한다. 아울러, 상기 안테나 장치(100)는 상기 인공 자기 도체층(103)과 동일한 면에 배치되는 급전 패드(111)를 포함할 수 있으며, 단락 핀(105)이 유전체 기판의 타면에서 상기 인공 자기 도체층(103)에 연결되어 상기 인공 자기 도체층(103)을 주회로 기판(109)으로 단락시킬 수 있다. 한편, 도 10에 도시된 바와 같이, 상기 방사 패턴(102)은 별도의 급전 라인(117)과 접지 라인(119)을 통해 상기 주회로 기판(109)의 급전 회로와 접지부(G)로 각각 연결될 수 있다. 상기 급전 라인(117)과 접지 라인(119)은 각각 가요성 인쇄회로 기판으로 이루어질 수 있다. 어떤 실시 예에서, 상기 방사 패턴(102)이 금속 박판으로 제작된다면, 상기 급전 라인(117)과 접지 라인(119)은 각각 금속 박판의 일부분으로서 상기 방사 패턴(102)으로부터 연장될 수 있다.
상기 디지털 카메라(30)에 장착된 안테나 장치(100)의 더 상세한 구성은 상술한 바 있는 실시 예들의 구성을 통해서 더 다양하게 구현될 수 있다.
상기와 같은 전자 기기, 예컨대, 금속성 재질의 케이스를 포함하는 디지털 카메라(30)에 상기 안테나 장치(100)를 설치함에 있어, 상기 유전체 기판(101)과 주회로 기판(109) 사이의 간격은 3mm이고, 상기 유전체 기판(101)의 두께는 1mm로서, 상기 주회로 기판(109)의 일면에서 상기 안테나 장치(100)는 4mm의 높이를 가질 수 있다.
본 개시의 다양한 실시 예들에 따른 안테나 장치(100)가 상기와 같은 구조로 상기 디지털 카메라(30)에 장착된 상태에서 측정된 방사 효율과, 통상적인 안테나 장치(10)가 동일한 디지털 카메라에 장착된 상태에서 측정된 방사 효율이 하기의 [표 2]에 비교되어 있다.

[표 2]에 나타난 바와 같이, 금속성 케이스를 포함하는 전자 기기에 장착된 통상적인 안테나 장치(10)의 방사 효율은 15~18%까지 낮아짐을 알 수 있었다. 반면에, 본 개시의 다양한 실시 예들에 따른 안테나 장치(100)는, 금속성 케이스를 포함하는 전자 기기에 장착된 상태에서도 대략 28~35%의 방사 효율을 유지할 수 있다. 따라서 금속성 케이스의 내부와 같은 열악한 작동 환경에서도 본 개시의 다양한 실시 예들에 따른 안테나 장치(100)는 더 안정된 동작 특성을 발휘할 수 있다.
이상, 본 개시의 상세한 설명에서는 구체적인 실시 예에 관해서 설명하였으나, 본 개시의 범위에서 벗어나지 않는 한도 내에서 여러 가지 변형이 가능함은 당해 분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자에게 있어서 자명하다 할 것이다.

Claims (13)
- 안테나 장치에 있어서,
유전체 기판;
상기 유전체 기판의 일면에 형성된 방사 패턴;
상기 유전체 기판의 타면에 형성된 적어도 하나의 유닛 셀(unit cell)을 포함하는 인공 자기 도체층(artificial magnetic conductor layer)으로서, 상기 유닛 셀은 인터디지털 구조를 통해 서로 인접하면서 직렬로 배열된 복수의 도체부 패턴을 포함하는 상기 인공 자기 도체층;
상기 유전체 기판의 타면에 형성되며 상기 인공 자기 도체층과 인접하는 급전 패드;
상기 유전체 기판의 타면에 형성되며 상기 인공 자기 도체층과 인접하는 접지 패드; 및
상기 유닛 셀에 연결되어 상기 인공 자기 도체의 인덕턴스 성분을 보상하는 단락 핀(shorting pin)을 포함하고,
상기 인공 자기 도체층은 상기 방사 패턴을 흐르는 신호 전류에 대하여 동위상의 유도 전류를 형성하는 안테나 장치.
- 제1 항에 있어서, 상기 유닛 셀은 병렬 인덕턴스(inductance)와 직렬 캐패시턴스(capacitance)로 이루어진 공진 회로를 형성하는 금속 패턴으로 이루어지는 안테나 장치.
- 제1 항에 있어서, 상기 복수의 도체부 패턴은,
제1 도체부 패턴;
상기 제1 도체부 패턴의 양단에 인접하게 각각 형성되는 제2 도체부 패턴; 및
상기 제1 도체부 패턴과 각각의 상기 제2 도체부 패턴 사이에 형성된 갭(gap)들을 포함함으로써,
상기 갭들을 통해 상기 제1, 제2 도체부 패턴 사이에 용량성 결합을 형성하는 안테나 장치.
- 제3 항에 있어서,
복수의 상기 제1, 제2 도체부 패턴들이 서로 번갈아 가며 배열되면서 용량성 결합을 형성하는 안테나 장치.
- 제4 항에 있어서, 상기 단락 핀은 상기 유닛 셀들의 배열의 일단에서 상기 제1, 제2 도체부 패턴 중 하나에 연결되는 안테나 장치.
- 제4 항에 있어서, 상기 갭과 인접하는 다른 갭 사이에서 상기 제1 또는 제2 도체부 패턴은 접지부 및 유도성 결합을 제공하는 안테나 장치.
- 전자 기기에 있어서,
주회로 기판; 및
상기 주회로 기판 상에 배치되는 안테나 장치를 구비하고,
상기 안테나 장치는,
상기 주회로 기판에 대면하게 배치되는 유전체 기판;
상기 유전체 기판의 일면에 형성된 방사 패턴;
상기 유전체 기판의 타면에 형성된 금속 패턴으로 이루어진 인공 자기 도체층(artificial magnetic conductor layer)으로서, 인터디지털 구조를 통해 서로 인접하면서 직렬로 배열된 복수의 도체부 패턴을 포함하는 상기 인공 자기 도체층;
상기 유전체 기판의 타면에 형성되며 상기 인공 자기 도체층과 인접하는 급전 패드;
상기 유전체 기판의 타면에 형성되며 상기 인공 자기 도체층과 인접하는 접지 패드; 및
상기 인공 자기 도체층에 연결되어 상기 인공 자기 도체의 인덕턴스 성분을 보상하는 단락 핀(shorting pin)을 포함하고,
상기 단락 핀은 상기 인공 자기 도체층을 상기 주회로 기판으로 단락시키는 전자 기기.
- 제7 항에 있어서, 상기 인공 자기 도체층은 상기 주회로 기판과 대면하는 상기 유전체 기판의 한 면에 형성되는 전자 기기.
- 제7 항에 있어서, 상기 인공 자기 도체층은, 상기 복수의 도체부 패턴 중 제1 도체부 패턴과, 상기 복수의 도체부 패턴 중 한 쌍의 제2 도체부 패턴들로 이루어지는 적어도 하나의 유닛 셀을 포함하고,
상기 제1, 제2 도체부 패턴은 용량성 결합을 형성하는 전자 기기.
- 제9 항에 있어서, 상기 단락 핀은 상기 제1, 제2 도체부 패턴 중 하나를 상기 주회로 기판의 그라운드로 단락시키는 전자 기기.
- 제9 항에 있어서, 복수의 제1 도체부 패턴과, 복수의 제2 도체부 패턴이 서로 번갈아가며 직렬로 배열되는 전자 기기.
- 제11 항에 있어서, 상기 단락 핀은 상기 제1, 제2 도체부 패턴들의 배열의 일단에서 상기 제1, 제2 도체부 패턴 중 하나를 상기 주회로 기판의 그라운드로 단락시키는 전자 기기.
- 제7 항에 있어서, 상기 금속 패턴은 병렬 인덕턴스(inductance)와 직렬 캐패시턴스(capacitance)로 이루어진 공진 회로를 형성하는 전자 기기.
