Description
The present invention relates to a silicon carbide powder and a method for manufacturing the same, and more particularly, by using mesoporous silica meso-sized pores and a large surface area, high-purity silicon carbide powder having a smaller amount of residual oxygen is more efficiently compared to conventional methods. It relates to a method for producing silicon carbide powder that can be produced and to silicon carbide powder produced using the same.
Silicon carbide is widely used as abrasives, bearings, nozzles, and high-temperature structural materials because of its high temperature stability and thermal shock resistance, high wear resistance and self-lubrication, and excellent chemical resistance to acid resistance and corrosion resistance. In recent years, as a high degree of integration is required in the semiconductor process, precise control of the high temperature process is required, and thus, it has been spotlighted as a material to replace quartz and alumina.
Representative methods for producing silicon carbide powder include the Acheson method, the carbon reduction method (carbothermal reduction method), synthesis method using a gas phase reaction, liquid phase polymer reaction method and the like. Among them, the Acheson method is a typical industrial mass production method suitable for producing α-silicon carbide (α-SiC), and it is used as a starting material in quartz and coke as a starting material. Create
On the other hand, the carbon reduction method, gas phase reaction method, liquid polymer reaction method, etc. is suitable for the production of stable β-phase silicon carbide (β-SiC) in the low temperature range, but there is a disadvantage that mass production is difficult except the carbon reduction method. The carbon reduction method is a method for producing silicon carbide by mixing silica and carbon at a predetermined ratio and heat treatment in an inert gas atmosphere. The carbon reduction method can produce silicon carbide having a homogeneous particle size and excellent sintered body properties.Since the silica used as a starting material has a melting temperature of 1,650 ° C, the reaction temperature is required to be higher than this. If the partial pressure of carbon monoxide is increased, there is a disadvantage that a reverse reaction occurs.
In order to solve the problems of the prior art as described above, the present invention is a method for producing silicon carbide powder which can produce high purity silicon carbide powder with high efficiency by reducing the amount of residual oxygen by using mesoporous silica and the large surface area of mesoporous silica And it aims to provide the silicon carbide powder manufactured using the same.

According to the silicon carbide powder prepared from the mesoporous silica of the present invention and a method for producing the same, a high-purity carbonization is achieved by reducing the amount of oxygen remaining by using mesoporous silica as a starting material and using a meso size channel and a large specific surface area of the mesoporous silica. The terms and words used in the present specification and claims should not be construed as limited to ordinary or dictionary meanings and should be construed in accordance with the technical meanings and concepts of the present invention.
1 is a flow chart of a method for producing silicon carbide powder using mesoporous silica according to an embodiment of the present invention.
1, the method for producing silicon carbide powder using mesoporous silica according to an embodiment of the present invention, the step of synthesizing mesoporous silica (S1); Mixing the synthesized mesoporous silica and the carbon raw material (S2); And heat treating the mixture of the mesoporous silica and the carbon raw material (S3).
Mesoporous silica has meso-sized pores and large specific surface area. Meso-sized pores facilitate gas migration such as carbon monoxide generated during the reaction, and the large specific surface area increases the amount of oxygen remaining within a short time by increasing the reactivity with carbon. And high purity silicon carbide powder with a small amount of residual carbon.
Regarding the synthesis of mesoporous silica, various synthesis methods and structural analysis thereof are already known (US Pat. No. 5,951,962; Science 279, 548 (1998)), and these methods are also used for the synthesis of mesoporous silica in the present invention. Can be.
In the following examples, mesoporous silica was synthesized by hydrothermal synthesis, but fumed silica was used as the silicon raw material, but is not particularly limited thereto.
In addition, in the following examples, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) was used as a support to form porosity. At this time, the pore size is determined according to the carbon number of the CTAB, the CTAB used in the present invention corresponds to 16 carbon atoms, the pore size is formed in the range of 2 ~ 4nm according to the addition ratio of the CTAB and silica. Can be. In this step, the emulsifier used as the porous forming support is not limited to CTAB having 16 carbon atoms. Instead, the emulsifier may be selected from alkyltrimethylammonium bromide having 12 to 24 carbon atoms. In addition, it is also possible to form meso-sized pores using polymers such as polyethylene oxide (PEO) and polybutylene oxide (PBO) as well as emulsifiers.
The pore size of mesoporous silica is preferably 1 nm to 4 nm. When the pore size is less than 1 nm, the reaction gas, such as carbon monoxide, is not smoothly moved, and when the pore size exceeds 4 nm, the surface area of the silica is reduced to form carbon. There is a problem of low reactivity with.
When mesoporous silica is synthesized, it is mixed with a carbon raw material and heat-treated in an inert gas atmosphere to produce silicon carbide. Silica reacts with carbon during the heat treatment, and oxygen in the silica is formed by carbon monoxide (CO) gas, and the remaining silicon reacts with carbon to form silicon carbide. The scheme is as follows.
1]Scheme 1
SiO2 + 3C → SiC + 2CO↑SiO 2 + 3C → SiC + 2CO ↑
In the step (S2), the carbon raw material mixed with the reducing material of silica is carbon black, carbon nanotube (CNT), graphite, activated carbon, graphene. , Cokes and the like can be used, and preferably carbon black, carbon nanotubes or graphite can be used. At this time, the carbon raw material can be used in the form of powder or block.
At this time, the amount of carbon raw material added to the mesoporous silica is preferably added in a weight ratio of 0.01 to 2 times with respect to mesoporous silica, and more preferably within a range of 0.2 to 1 times. If the amount of silica is too high out of the above range, the amount of carbon is relatively low and unreacted silica remains. If the amount of carbon is out of the above range, the silica is sufficiently reduced and converted to silicon carbide. There is a problem in that it is impossible to obtain high-purity silicon carbide due to the amount of carbon.
The heat treatment step (S3) is preferably carried out in the
At this time, the heat treatment atmosphere may be carried out in an inert gas atmosphere such as helium (He), neon (Ne), argon (Ar) or vacuum, but preferably in an argon atmosphere.
The silicon carbide powder prepared as described above may be molded under high temperature and high pressure to be manufactured into various moldings.
Hereinafter, preferred examples are provided to aid the understanding of the present invention, but the following examples are merely for exemplifying the present invention, and it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications can be made within the scope and spirit of the present invention. It is natural that such variations and modifications fall within the scope of the appended claims.

After mixing 10 g of mesoporous silica and 6 g of carbon nanotubes synthesized in Preparation Example 1, silicon carbide was prepared by heat treatment for 4 hours at 1,650 ° C. and 1,850 ° C. in an argon atmosphere. The formation of silicon carbide was measured using an X-ray diffraction analyzer and the results are shown in FIG. 5. In Figure 5 (a) is 1650 ℃, (b) shows the result of 1850 ℃. In addition, the particle shape of silicon carbide was observed by FE-SEM, and the results are shown in FIGS. 6A and 6B. FIG. 6A shows the particle shape of carbon nanotubes, and FIG. 6B shows the particle shape of silicon carbide synthesized in Example 1. FIG.
X-ray diffraction analysis produced silicon carbide at both 1,650 ° C and 1,850 ° C. In addition, the FE-SEM analysis confirmed that the produced form of silicon carbide retained the original form of carbon nanotubes.
Comparative example 1> 1>
To compare with Example 1, 10g of commercial silica and 6g of carbon black were mixed, and then heat-treated at 1,850 ° C under argon atmosphere to prepare silicon carbide. The formation of silicon carbide was measured using an X-ray diffractometer and the results are shown in FIG. 7.
According to the X-ray diffraction analysis of FIG. 7, when the reaction was performed using commercial silica and carbon black, pure silicon carbide was not produced because a second phase other than silicon carbide was formed.
When comparing the results of Example 1 with Comparative Example 1, it can be seen that mesoporous silica is much more efficient in the production of silicon carbide than commercial silica.
Comparative example 2> 2>
To compare with Example 2, 10g of commercial silica and 6g of carbon nanotubes were mixed, and then heat-treated at 1,850 ° C. under argon atmosphere to prepare silicon carbide. Formation of silicon carbide was measured using an X-ray diffraction analyzer and the results are shown in FIG. 8, and the particle shape of the silicon carbide was observed by FE-SEM and the results are shown in FIG. 9. In Figure 8 (a) shows the measurement results for commercial silica, (b) shows the measurement results for the silicon carbide hybrid synthesized in Preparation Example 1.
According to the results of X-ray diffraction analysis of FIG. 8, silicon carbide was formed when the reaction was performed at 1,850 ° C. using commercial silica, but silica, which is a raw material, did not sufficiently react and remained. However, according to the X-ray diffraction analysis of Example 1, pure mesocarbide was produced even at 1,650 ° C when mesoporous silica was used as a starting material. Therefore, mesoporous silica can be confirmed that the reactivity is superior to commercial silica under the same conditions.
In addition, according to Figure 9, when the heat treatment by mixing the commercial silica and carbon nanotubes, the shape was confirmed to be a powder form of 2 microns or more. This is different from the silicon carbide prepared in Example 2 (FIG. 6B) maintaining the shape of the carbon nanotube as a starting material. Therefore, when mesoporous silica is used, the form of the silicon carbide product may be determined according to the form of carbon used as a starting material.
