BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a semiconductor device manufacturing technology, and more particularly, to a temperature sensor using a semiconductor device suitable for measuring fine temperature and a method of manufacturing the same.
The most important and special part of the characteristics of the semiconductor is the change in resistance with temperature. In general conductors, the specific resistance increases as the temperature increases, whereas in the case of pure semiconductors, the resistance decreases as the temperature increases.
Since electrons in pure semiconductors are covalently bonded, there are no free electrons structurally, but when the temperature starts to rise from absolute temperature, electrons that get energy from heat are released from the nucleus and become free electrons. Since the current means the amount of charge movement per hour, the increase in free electrons, which are freely movable charges, means that the current flows easily. Therefore, pure semiconductors have a lower resistance with increasing free electrons at higher temperatures.
Heat affects the nucleus as well as the electron. As the temperature rises, the lattice vibration of the nucleus becomes active, and the lattice vibration of the nucleus collides with the free electrons and obstructs the flow of free electrons.
Since the number of free electrons in the semiconductor, that is, the intrinsic semiconductor, is completely free of impurities, the number of free electrons that increase with temperature has an absolute effect. In other words, intrinsic semiconductors have a lower resistance as the temperature increases.
However, impurity semiconductors containing trivalent or pentavalent elements already have a sufficient number of electrons or holes for current to flow.
The effect of the number of free electrons increasing with temperature on the current is minimal. At this time, how much the disturbance caused by the vibration of the nucleus has more influence on the current flow. The same is true for conductors. That is, like the general conductor, the impurity semiconductor increases in resistance as the temperature increases. Most of the semiconductors we actually use are semiconductors with added impurities, and of course, the resistance increases as the temperature increases.
The present invention focuses on the typical characteristics of the above-described semiconductor, a temperature sensor using a semiconductor device that can implement a temperature sensing function by using the rising characteristics of the breakdown voltage (Breakdown Voltage: BV) according to the temperature and a manufacturing method thereof The purpose is to provide.
