The present invention relates to a stereoscopic image screening system, and more specifically, to implement a circularly polarized light filter having a fast driving speed using a pie-cell LCD, and using the three-dimensional image projector system according to the 1 projector circular polarization method, stereoscopic image An apparatus for a screening system and a method of implementing a stereoscopic screening system using the same.
In general, a method of implementing a stereoscopic image (or a 3D image) is implemented by illuminating different images on two eyes of a human, and a stereoscopic image display device uses separate glasses for illuminating different images on two eyes. According to whether or not it is necessary, it is classified into a three-dimensional stereoscopic image display device and a non-stereoscopic 3D image display device.
Among them, in the case of a three-dimensional image screened through a large screen such as a theater, a polarization method that distinguishes and transmits a left image and a right image through polarizing glasses having polarizing lenses in different directions on the left and right sides is mainly used. It captures images using two cameras, displays the two images with a right angle deviation of each other on one screen by using polarization means, and images taken by the two cameras through the polarizing glasses described above. The three-dimensional image is implemented by viewing the left and right eyes respectively.
1 is a diagram illustrating the structure of a conventional two-projector system for displaying a stereoscopic image.
In order to perform stereoscopic image display by the polarization method as described above, in the conventional two projector system, the left image is irradiated on one projector 1 by two conventional two-dimensional (2D)
As described above, the conventional two-projector stereoscopic image screening system uses two conventional two-dimensional image projectors and two polarizers as described above, and includes a peripheral device, which is very expensive to construct the system. In addition, as the two projectors are used, the number of projectors required to display the same number of movies in a theater is doubled, and the position at which the left image and the right image are irradiated on the screen according to the positions between the two projectors. If the position between the two projectors is not adjusted correctly, there is a problem that the degree of registration of the stereoscopic image is poor.
Therefore, there has been a need for a 1 projector system for a stereoscopic image display system, and accordingly, a system of dividing a region of a conventional 1 projector LCD module and a method using an LCD shutter has been developed.
2 is a diagram illustrating a structure of a system according to a region classification method of a conventional LCD module for displaying a stereoscopic image.

In addition, there is a problem that the quality of the stereoscopic image is deteriorated if the left image and the right image do not pass through the predetermined area. Such problem is difficult to avoid when the left image and the right image are processed in a spatial manner, and when a stereoscopic image is displayed on a large screen such as in the theater, a small position mismatch on the projector side is stereoscopic on the viewer side. Since the degree of registration of the image can be greatly reduced, it is not easy to adjust the position at which the left and right images are illuminated.
On the other hand, Figure 3 is a diagram showing the structure of a conventional LCD shutter system for displaying stereoscopic images.
As described above, in order to solve a problem that may occur when the left and right images are spatially separated in the one projector method, the method shown in FIG. 3 produces three-dimensional image content such that the left image and the right image are sequentially repeated. The
That is, the left image and the right image are sequentially stored in the content itself, and when the

In order to solve the above problems, an object of the present invention is to use a pie-cell LCD instead of a conventional general LCD in consideration of its unique characteristics, thereby providing a circular polarization filter having a faster response speed and a higher polarization ratio. There is.
In addition, by implementing a one-projector stereoscopic image screening system using the circular polarization filter as described above, not only can reduce the number of projectors required for stereoscopic image screening, but also prevent crosstalk between left and right images. To provide a stereoscopic image projector system, an apparatus for stereoscopic image screening and a stereoscopic image screening system including the same.

In some instances, well-known structures and devices are omitted or shown in block diagram form, centering on the core functions of each structure and device, in order to avoid obscuring the concepts of the present invention. In addition, the same components will be described with the same reference numerals throughout the present specification.
As a conventional technology, a method for solving the problems of the conventional LCD shutter method as described above includes a filter for the left image and a filter for the right image, and has different circular polarization directions through rotation in synchronization with the irradiation of the left and right images. There is a 1 projector circular polarization filter method.
The method described above is invented by the present inventors, filed by the present applicant, and incorporated herein by reference, " stereoscopic image projector system, apparatus for stereoscopic image screening system and stereoscopic image screening system using same " (patent application No. 2006-0109066).
On the other hand, one embodiment of the present invention proposes a method for providing a circularly polarized filter using a pie-cell LCD instead of a conventional LCD. The pie-cell LCD is also commonly referred to as "pie LCD" in the art. Specifically, the response speed of a general LCD is about 25 msec, whereas the response speed of a pie-cell LCD is about 2 msec or less (specifically, the rising speed is 0.05 msec and the falling speed is 2 msec). Fast LCD). In addition, there is an advantage that can provide a wide audio-visual compared to the general LCD.
However, since the pie-cell LCD has a unique difference from the general LCD as follows, the conventional LCD shutter as described above in FIG. 4 cannot be used as it is.
In general LCD, the direction of the liquid crystal is changed to have a polarization direction of 0 ° or 90 ° depending on whether the voltage is applied or released, which constitutes an on voltage (V ON ) and an off voltage (V OFF ). Using this, the left and right images can be distinguished. However, in the case of a pie-cell LCD, when the liquid crystal is directed in the 0 ° direction when no voltage is applied, and a voltage (V OFF ) of about 5 V is applied, the light is λ / 4 or-λ depending on the incident direction. When circularly polarized by / 4 and a voltage (V ON ) of about 40 V is applied, all light passes through the light without polarization. Therefore, due to the difference in driving method as described above, such a pie-cell LCD cannot be used as a substitute for the LCD in the existing LCD shutter, and in one embodiment of the present invention, Unique characteristics are used to provide better circular polarization filters.
FIG. 5 is a diagram showing the configuration of a circular polarization filter using two pie-cell LCDs according to an embodiment of the present invention.
As shown in FIG. 5, the circularly
In addition, it is preferable that V ON and V OFF applied alternately are applied in synchronization with timing of the left image and the right image conversion of the stereoscopic image contents.
The principle in which the circularly

In addition, when the projector irradiates the right image, V ON is applied to the first pie-
According to the above-described operating principle, the P-cell LCD circular circular polarizing filter according to the embodiment of the present invention has a left circular image and a right circular image having different circular polarization directions (for example, a left rotation direction and a right rotation direction). Can be screened separately.
In addition, since the pie-cell LCD has a faster response speed (2 msec or less) than the conventional LCD as described above, the above-mentioned circular polarization filter using the pie-cell LCD has a difference between left and right images compared to the conventional LCD shutter. Crosstalk can be reduced.
In addition, in the

FIG. 7 is a diagram for comparing the degree of cross talk occurring between a left image and a right image in accordance with the conventional LCD shutter method and the 1 projector pie-cell LCD method according to an embodiment of the present invention.
The left and right marks at the top of FIG. 7 indicate a time point at which the left image is irradiated and a time point at which the right image is irradiated through the projector. When the left image and the right image are sequentially irradiated as described above, when the images are polarized by using the LCD shutter as shown in FIG. 3, a relatively large cross at the time of switching between the left and right images is shown as shown. It can be seen that torque is generated. In addition, the LCD shutter is characterized in that the orientation direction of the liquid crystal inside the LCD changes to 0 ° / 90 ° according to whether or not voltage is applied to the LCD as described above with reference to FIG. 4, and the alignment change of the liquid crystal in the LCD is completely made. Because of the difficulty, a constant crosstalk occurs not only at the time of conversion of the left and right images, but also during the period during which the left image is irradiated and during the period during which the right image is irradiated.
In addition, LCD shutters generally react with a falling time more delayed than a rising time. In FIG. 7, the left image is displayed during the rising period of the LCD, and the right image is displayed during the falling period. Although an example of the screening is shown, a crosstalk is generated at the time of switching from the left image to the right image than the time of switching from the right image to the left image, but the image screened at each time point may be different.
On the contrary, when using the pie-cell LCD circular polarization filter according to an embodiment of the present invention, due to the fast response speed of the pie-cell LCD, as shown in FIG. The resulting crosstalk is significantly reduced.
In addition, in the case of the LCD shutter, as shown in FIG. 7, the polarization rate for one of the images is not so high due to the characteristics of the LCD. It can be seen that crosstalk between the generated left and right images is also larger than when using the pie-cell LCD type circular polarizing filter according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
Therefore, according to the present invention, by using a single projector, not only can maximize the utilization of the theater in the theater, and can reduce the installation cost for the three-dimensional image screening, crosstalk between the left and right images compared to the conventional LCD shutter method By reducing it, a better stereoscopic image can be realized.
The three-dimensional image screening system using the one projector pie-cell LCD circular polarization filter according to the embodiment of the present invention as described above can be represented by the following table in comparison with the LCD shutter system.
As shown in Table 1, the pi-cell LCD filter method according to the present invention is a circularly polarized light system driven by a phase difference conversion of two pie-cell LCDs, that is, λ / 4 phase difference conversion and −λ / 4 phase difference conversion. Due to the fast response speed of the pi-cell LCD, the crosstalk is smaller in the conversion area of the left and right images than the LCD shutter method. Torque decreases.
8 is a view for explaining the overall structure of a one-projector pie-cell LCD stereoscopic screening system according to an embodiment of the present invention.
As shown in FIG. 8, the pie-cell LCD stereoscopic image display system according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention irradiates a left image and a right image through a pie-cell LCD
Of course, the three-dimensional
The detailed description of the preferred embodiments of the invention disclosed as described above is provided to enable any person skilled in the art to make and practice the invention. Although the above has been described with reference to the preferred embodiments of the present invention, those skilled in the art will variously modify and change the present invention without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the claims below. I can understand that you can. Thus, the present invention is not intended to be limited to the embodiments shown herein but is to be accorded the widest scope consistent with the principles and novel features disclosed herein.
According to one embodiment of the present invention as described above, by forming a circularly polarized filter in consideration of the unique characteristics of the pie-cell LCD, rather than the conventional general LCD, it is possible to obtain a fast reaction speed and a higher polarization ratio.
In addition, by implementing a one-projector stereoscopic image screening system using the circular polarization filter as described above, not only can reduce the number of projectors required for stereoscopic image screening, but also prevent crosstalk between left and right images. A stereoscopic projector system, an apparatus for displaying a stereoscopic image, and a stereoscopic image screening system including the same may be implemented.
In addition, by changing the position of the circularly polarized filter unit by the frame unit, it is possible to screen not only 3D images but also general 2D images, and the three-dimensional image projector system according to an embodiment of the present invention is simply installed in front of the existing projector, It has the advantage that it can be used.
