DSS APG 데이터 안에 실려오는 CSO를 통해 디지털 TV의 선호 채널을 결정하는 방법에 관한 것으로서, 특히 프로그램 안내 정보에 실려오는 채널 또는 프로그램에 관련된 카테고리 정보로부터 시청자가 시청하는 프로그램의 카테고리를 조사하는 단계와, 조사한 채널 또는 프로그램의 카테고리를 이용하여 시청자의 선호도를 유추하는 단계와, 유추한 시청자의 선호도로 시청자의 선호 채널 또는 프로그램을 결정하는 단계와, 상기 결정된 선호 채널 또는 프로그램을 이용하는 단계로 이루어져, 시청자의 조작없이 선호 채널 또는, 프로그램을 찾을 수 있다.

Description

디지털 ＴＶ의 선호 채널 결정 방법{Method for deciding favorite channel of digital TV}
본 발명은 전송 채널을 통해서 입력되는 프로그램 안내 정보 중에 포함된 카테고리 정보를 이용하여 시청자의 선호도(preference)를 조사하고, 시청자의 선호 채널 또는 프로그램(favorite channel or program)을 자동으로 결정하는 방법에 관한 것이다.
최근 디지털 위성 시스템(Digital Satellite System ; DSS)은 9999(마이너 채널이 없는 경우) 또는, 999(마이너 채널이 있는 경우)의 많은 채널들을 제공한다.
이때, 보통 시청자는 습관적으로 자신이 좋아하는 프로그램을 보거나 채널들을 서핑(surfing)하는 정도이다.
또한, 이러한 많은 채널들에 대응하기 위하여 종래 기술은 선호 채널 리스트를 제공하고 있다.
예를 들면, 선호 채널 리스트는 시청자가 자주 시청하거나 좋아하는 채널들 또는 프로그램들의 리스트이다. 그러나, 이것은 반드시 시청자가 채널 또는 프로그램을 추가 또는 삭제해야 하는 번거로움이 있다.
본 발명은 상기와 같은 문제점을 해결하기 위한 것으로서, 본 발명의 목적은 전송 채널을 통해서 입력되는 프로그램 안내 정보 중에 포함된 CSO(Category System Object)를 조사하여 시청자의 조작없이 선호 채널 또는 프로그램을 찾아주는 방법을 제공함에 있다.
상기와 같은 목적을 달성하기 위한 본 발명에 따른 디지털 TV의 선호 채널 결정 방법은, 프로그램 안내 정보에 실려오는 채널 또는 프로그램에 관련된 카테고리 정보로부터 시청자가 시청하는 프로그램의 카테고리를 조사하는 단계와, 조사한 채널 또는 프로그램의 카테고리를 이용하여 시청자의 선호도를 유추하는 단계와, 유추한 시청자의 선호도로 시청자의 선호 채널 또는 프로그램을 결정하는 단계와, 상기 결정된 선호 채널 또는 프로그램을 이용하는 단계를 포함하여 이루어지는 것을 특징으로 한다.
상기 이용 단계는 시청자의 선택에 따라 상기 단계에서 유추된 선호도를 화면 상에 표시하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
상기 이용 단계는 상기 단계에서 결정된 선호 채널 또는, 프로그램 리스트를 프로그램 안내 정보와 같이 표시하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
상기 이용 단계는 프로그램 안내 정보의 디스플레이시 상기 단계에서 결정된 선호 채널 또는, 프로그램 정보를 아이콘 형태로 표시하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
상기 이용 단계는 상기 단계에서 결정된 선호 채널 또는, 프로그램 정보를 화면 상에 표시하고, 표시된 채널 또는 프로그램의 시작 시간이 되면 해당 채널 또는 프로그램을 디스플레이하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
본 발명의 다른 목적, 특징 및 잇점들은 첨부한 도면을 참조한 실시예들의 상세한 설명을 통해 명백해질 것이다.
이하, 본 발명의 바람직한 실시예를 첨부도면을 참조하여 상세히 설명한다.
본 발명은 디지털 위성 방송 시스템(Digital Satellite System ; DSS)의 APG(Advanced Program Guide)의 CSO(Category System Object) 즉, CO(Channel Object) 또는, PO(Program Object)마다 가지고 있는 카테고리 디스크립터(category_descriptor)를 분석해 프로그램의 구체적인 카테고리를 찾아낸 후 이를 카운트함에 의해 시청자의 선호도를 유추해낼 수 있다. 즉, 가장 많이 카운트된 카테고리를 보면 시청자의 선호도를 유추해낼 수 있다. 이렇게 유추된 선호도를 이용하여 시청자의 선호 채널 또는 프로그램을 찾을 수 있다.
이를 위해, 본 발명의 제 1 단계는 시청자가 자주 시청하는 채널 또는 프로그램의 카테고리를 조사한다. 즉, 위성을 통해 전송되는 DSS APG는 다양하고 진보된 정보를 포함하고 있으며, 상기 APG는 오브젝트 단위로 전송된다.
따라서, 상기 APG 중에 채널과 프로그램에 관련된 CO와 PO의 카테고리 디스크립터(category_descriptor)를 분석해 프로그램의 구체적인 카테고리를 찾아낸다.
이때, 본 발명에 적용되는 DSS APG의 CSO들의 예는, 루트 CSO, Age Appropriate CSO, Audio & Video CSO, Content Advisory CSO, interests CSO, Languages CSO, Lifestyles CSO, Major Networks CSO, Show types, Sports CSO, Themes CSO, Alternate Root CSO로 구성되어 있다. 여기서, CSO는 추가 또는 변경될 수 있다.
그리고, 상기 CSO의 구체적인 정의는 하기의 표 1 내지 표 12에서 참조한다.

상기 카테고리 사용에 대한 예는 야구 게임과 관련된 코메디 영화 프로그램으로 볼 수 있다. 그리고, relevancy는 비중이 높은 순 즉, 중요도 순으로 볼 수 있다.
이와 같이 제 1 단계를 통해 채널 또는 프로그램의 구체적인 카테고리를 알 수 있다.
제 2 단계는 상기 제 1 단계에서 조사한 채널 또는 프로그램의 카테고리를 이용하여 시청자의 취향을 유추한다. 예를 들면, 제 1 단계에서 분석된 카테고리 사용에 대한 예는 야구 게임과 관련된 코메디 영화 프로그램이다. 즉, 제 1 단계에 서 조사한 채널 또는 프로그램의 카테고리를 카운트하여 가장 많이 카운트된 카테고리 또는 기 설정된 임계값을 넘어서는 카테고리를 보면 시청자의 취향을 유추해 낼 수 있다.
이때, 시청자가 자주 시청하는 채널 또는 프로그램의 카테고리가 야구 게임과 관련된 코메디 영화가 대부분을 차지하고 있다면, 시청자는 야구 게임광이며, 심각한 종류보다는 가볍게 보면서 즐길 수 있는 코메디 영화를 즐겨 본다는 것을 알 수 있다.
제 3 단계는 유추한 시청자의 선호도로 시청자의 선호 채널 또는 프로그램을 찾는다. 즉, 제 2 단계에서 유추한 시청자의 취향으로 관련된 채널 또는 프로그램을 찾는다.
예를 들면, 제 1 단계의 예제와 같이 야구 게임과 관련된 코메디 영화와 일치하는 채널 또는 프로그램을 찾을 수 있다. 또는, 야구를 중계하는 채널이나 프로그램 또는, 코메디나 영화 관련 채널이나 프로그램을 찾을 수도 있다.
제 4 단계는 이렇게 찾은 선호 채널 또는 프로그램의 이용 방법이다.
즉, 상기 제 3 단계에서 찾은 선호 채널 또는 프로그램을 표현하는 방법은 여러 가지가 있을 수 있으며, 다음은 그 중 일부만을 설명한다.
하나의 방법은, 리모콘에 있는 선호도 관련된 버튼 또는, OSD(On Screen Display) 메뉴를 누르면, 시청자의 취향이 무엇인지 디스플레이하는 것이다. 일 예로, "야구 게임과 관련된 코메디 영화"라고 디스플레이할 수도 있다.
또한, 선호 채널 또는, 프로그램 리스트를 프로그램 안내 정보와 같이 나열 할 수도 있다. 이때, 선호 채널 또는, 프로그램을 추가하거나 삭제하는 조작은 필요없게 된다.
다른 하나의 방법은, 시청자가 특정 채널의 프로그램을 시청하고 있는 중에 앞으로 시작하는 선호 프로그램의 정보를 OSD로 표시하여 알려주고, 시간이 되면 OSD로 표시된 선호 프로그램을 보여주는 리마인드(remind) 기능이다. 이때, 시청자가 선호 채널 또는, 프로그램을 시청하고 싶지 않으면 취소 버튼을 누른다.
또 다른 하나의 방법은, 채널 편집 화면에서 채널 블록이나, 또는 프로그램 안내 정보의 프로그램 바(bar) 위 등에 작은 아이콘으로 선호 채널임을 표현함으로써, 시청자가 선호 채널 또는 프로그램을 구분할 수 있도록 한다.

이상에서와 같이 본 발명에 따른 디지털 TV의 선호 채널 결정 방법에 의하면, 자주 보는 채널 또는 프로그램의 카테고리를 조사하여 시청자의 선호도를 유추하고, 유추된 선호도를 이용하여 시청자의 조작없이 선호 채널 또는, 프로그램을 찾을 수 있다. 그리고, 이렇게 찾은 선호 채널 또는 프로그램을 TV 화면 상에 표시하거나, 시청자가 편리하게 사용할 수 있도록 한다.
이상 설명한 내용을 통해 당업자라면 본 발명의 기술 사상을 일탈하지 아니하는 범위에서 다양한 변경 및 수정이 가능함을 알 수 있을 것이다.
따라서, 본 발명의 기술적 범위는 실시예에 기재된 내용으로 한정되는 것이 아니라 특허 청구의 범위에 의하여 정해져야 한다.

Claims (5)

  1. 프로그램 안내 정보에 실려오는 채널 또는 프로그램에 관련된 카테고리 정보로부터 시청자가 시청하는 채널 또는 프로그램의 카테고리를 조사하는 단계;
    조사한 채널 또는 프로그램의 카테고리를 카운트하여 이에 따라 시청자의 선호도를 유추하는 단계;
    유추한 시청자의 선호도로 시청자의 선호 채널 또는 프로그램을 결정하는 단계; 그리고
    상기 결정된 선호 채널 또는 프로그램을 이용하는 단계를 포함하여 이루어지는 것을 특징으로 하는 디지털 TV의 선호 채널 결정 방법.
  2. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 유추 단계는
    상기 조사 단계에서 조사된 채널 또는 프로그램의 카테고리를 카운트함에 의해 시청자의 선호도를 유추하는 것을 특징으로 하는 디지털 TV의 선호 채널 결정 방법.
  3. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 이용 단계는
    시청자의 선택에 따라 상기 단계에서 유추된 선호도를 화면 상에 표시하는 것을 특징으로 하는 디지털 TV의 선호 채널 결정 방법.
  4. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 이용 단계는
    프로그램 안내 정보의 디스플레이시 상기 단계에서 결정된 선호 채널 또는, 프로그램 정보를 아이콘 형태로 표시하는 것을 특징으로 하는 디지털 TV의 선호 채널 결정 방법.
  5. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 이용 단계는
    상기 단계에서 결정된 선호 채널 또는, 프로그램 정보를 화면상에 표시하고, 표시된 채널 또는 프로그램의 시작 시간이 되면 해당 채널 또는 프로그램을 디스플레이하는 것을 특징으로 하는 디지털 TV의 선호 채널 결정 방법.
