Abstract
Description
Claims (11)
- 한 쌍의 기판 사이에 액정층을 보유 지지하여 구성된 액정 패널과,상기 액정층에 전압을 인가한 소정의 표시 상태에 있어서, 상기 액정층의 리터데이션을 광학적으로 보상하는 광학 보상 소자를 구비하고,상기 액정층에 인가하는 전압에 의해 상기 액정층에 포함되는 액정 분자에 의한 복굴절량을 변화시켜 화상을 표시하는 액정 표시 장치이며,상기 광학 보상 소자는 두께 방향에 리터데이션을 갖는 적어도 제1 위상차판 및 제2 위상차판을 갖고,각 파장의 광에 대한 리터데이션량(Δnㆍd)[단, nx 및 ny를 면내의 주굴절률로 하고 nz를 두께 방향의 주굴절률로 하였을 때, Δn = (nx + ny)/2 - nz이고, d는 두께로 함]을 소정 파장(λ)의 광에 대한 리터데이션량(Δnλㆍd)으로 규격화한 값을 Δn/Δnλ로 하였을 때,소정 파장 이외의 파장의 광에 대해, 상기 제1 위상차판에 있어서의 규격화된 값(Δn/Δnλ)은 상기 액정층에 있어서의 규격화된 값(Δn/Δnλ)보다도 작고, 상기 제2 위상차판에 있어서의 규격화된 값(Δn/Δnλ)은 상기 액정층에 있어서의 규격화된 값(Δn/Δnλ)보다도 큰 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 액정 분자는 표시 상태에 있어서 한 쌍의 기판 사이에 있어서 벤드 배열한 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 광학 보상 소자는 상기 제1 위상차판 또는 상기 제2 위상차판을 가장 상기 액정 패널측에 구비한 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제1 위상차판은 한 쌍의 기판 중 적어도 한쪽의 기판측에 배치된 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제2 위상차판은 한 쌍의 기판 중 적어도 한쪽의 기판측에 배치된 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 액정 패널은 복수색의 색 화소를 갖고, 서로 다른 색의 상기 색 화소에 있어서 상기 액정층의 두께가 다른 멀티갭 구조를 이루는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제2 위상차판은 동일 파장의 광에 대해 상기 제1 위상차판에 있어서의 리터데이션량과 상기 액정층에 있어서의 리터데이션량의 차와 대략 동등한 리터데이션량을 형성하는 두께를 갖는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제1 위상차판 및 제2 위상차판은 마이너스의 일축성 필름인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제1 위상차판 및 상기 제2 위상차판은 마이너스의 일축성을 갖는 광학 이방체를 두께 방향으로 배열한 필름인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제1 위상차판 및 상기 제2 위상차판은 이축성 필름인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 액정층은 밴드 배열이 가능한 액정 분자로 이루어지는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
