Abstract
The present invention relates to a top-emitting organic light emitting diode (OLED) device and a method of manufacturing the same. In the related-art top-emitting AM OLED panel device, a data electrode having a limited width and thickness is simultaneously formed in a metal electrode forming process for connecting a transistor electrode. Therefore, when the internal resistance of the data electrode is large, there is a fatal problem that the luminance is lowered as the applied voltage decreases as the device connected to the data electrode far from the portion where the signal is applied. In view of the above problems, the present invention forms a driving element, a data electrode, a scan electrode, and a metal electrode for electrical connection on a substrate, and then, when the anode electrode of the OLED is formed thereon, the same material as the anode electrode on the data electrode. By forming the auxiliary electrodes together, it is possible to improve the quality of the display image by reducing the luminance variation of each element position of the panel by lowering the resistance of the data electrode without increasing the cost without making a large change in the process.

The present invention relates to a top-emitting organic light emitting diode (OLED) device and a method of manufacturing the same, and particularly to prevent a voltage drop caused by internal resistance of a data electrode in a top-emitting active OLED device to reduce luminance deviation. A top emission organic light emitting diode (OLED) device and a method of manufacturing the same.
Recently, various flat panel displays have been developed to reduce weight and volume, which are disadvantages of cathode ray tubes (CRTs). Such a flat panel display panel is based on a liquid crystal display (LCD), a field emission display (FED), a plasma display panel (PDP), and an organic electroluminescence (EL). Organic light emitting diode (OLED) displays; and the like.
The organic electroluminescent device (hereinafter referred to as OLED) is an exciton in which electrons and holes are injected by injecting electrons and holes into the light emitting layer, respectively, from an electron injection electrode (cathode electrode) and a hole injection electrode (anode electrode). ) Emits light when it falls from the excited state to the ground state.
Due to this principle, unlike LCD, which is used as a conventional thin display device, it does not need a separate light source, so it has the advantage of reducing the volume and weight of the device, and when the video is displayed because the response speed is 1000 times faster than LCD. It is emerging as a next-generation display device because no afterimage remains.
According to the size of these OLEDs, various driving methods are used. Typically, medium- and large-sized OLED displays have an active matrix driving method (AM method), and active matrix driving methods and passive (Passive) methods in small OLED displays. ) Matrix driving method (PM method) is used in combination.
In the early OLED devices, many back-emitting structures in which light is emitted to the rear using a transparent substrate are used. However, in the case of AM OLED devices in which driving devices are to be formed in each cell, the size of the light emitting area is reduced, so that the driving devices are applied to the lower layer. Top emitting AM OLED structures are proposed that can increase the light emitting area by placing and forming a light emitting layer on the upper layer.
1 is a plan view showing a device structure of a conventional general top-emitting AM OLED, wherein a light emitting area is formed in an area covering an area in which driving devices are formed, and a data line for driving a plurality of devices in an active matrix type; Scan lines and power lines are arranged around the device. A switching transistor and a driving transistor for providing sufficient driving power are formed of a thin film semiconductor layer.
FIG. 2 is a circuit diagram showing the structure of the AM OLED device shown in FIG. 1, wherein each device has a switching transistor and a driving transistor connected to a scan line and a data line in a manner as shown in FIG. It is operated by selectively applying to the anode electrode of the OLED element. The capacitor connected to the driving transistor and the switching transistor operates as a storage capacitor.
3A to 3D show cross-sectional views of a conventional manufacturing process based on the cross section of the A-A 'portion of FIG. 1, and the prior art will be described.
First, FIG. 3A first forms basic driving elements on the
As shown in FIG. 3B, the first
As shown in FIG. 3C, a hole injection layer-hole transport layer is formed as an organic
As shown in FIG. 3D, the second
Through the above-described process, a top emission type AM OLED panel is formed, and the
Accordingly, there is a need for a device structure or method capable of reducing the internal resistance of the data electrode while maintaining the layout of the device while maintaining the layout of the device without limiting the change in the process as much as possible.
As described above, the conventional top emission type AM OLED panel device simultaneously forms a data electrode having a limited width and thickness in the process of forming a metal electrode for connecting a transistor electrode, so that the signal is applied when the internal resistance of the data electrode is large. In the case of devices connected to data electrodes in a distant place, the applied voltage decreases and the luminance is lowered.
In view of the above problems, the present invention forms a driving element, a data electrode, a scan electrode, and a metal electrode for electrical connection on a substrate, and then, when the anode electrode of the OLED is formed thereon, the same material as the anode electrode on the data electrode. It is an object of the present invention to provide a top-emitting OLED device and a method of manufacturing the same to form an auxiliary electrode of the light emitting diode to reduce the variation in luminance of each panel by lowering the resistance of the data electrode.
Hereinafter, a configuration and an operation according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
4A through 4D are cross-sectional views illustrating a manufacturing process of an embodiment of the present invention. As shown in FIG. 4A to 4D, the actual manufacturing process sequence is the same as in the prior art, but the current mask flow may be smoothed by modifying a mask during the manufacturing process. Auxiliary data lines can be added to make it possible. Of course, additional processes may be used, which will be readily understood through the description of the technical features of the present invention.
First, basic driving elements are first formed on the
The above process is the same as in the related art, but it should be noted that the thickness or width of the data electrode 107 ′ may be increased according to the size of the cell or the characteristics of the device. Conventionally, since the data signal is provided using only the data electrode 107 'formed in the above process, the voltage decreases as the voltage is separated from the source source provided by the internal resistance of the data electrode 107'. Since the luminance of cells located at a far distance can be relatively low, the lower limit of the thickness and width is inevitably limited. However, in the present invention, not only the data electrode 107 'formed in the process is used but also the thickness of the entire device is not increased on the data electrode 107' in order to reduce the internal resistance of the data electrode 107 '. The auxiliary data electrode is further formed. Therefore, even if the thickness and width of the data electrode 107 ′ formed in the process are smaller than in the related art, the auxiliary data electrode can compensate for this and further reduce the resistance, thereby further increasing the size of the light emitting area.
As shown in FIG. 4B, the first insulating
As illustrated, the
The internal resistance of the data electrode 107 'is lowered by the auxiliary data electrode 109' formed on the data electrode 107 'within the thickness of the first insulating
Thereafter, as shown in FIG. 4C, a hole injection layer-hole transport layer is formed of the organic
As shown in FIG. 4D, the second
FIG. 5 is a plan view showing the state of FIG. 4B among the process flowcharts of FIGS. 4A to 4D, and as shown in FIG. 5, an auxiliary data electrode may be further formed on the data electrode. 4A to 4D are enlarged cross-sections of the A-A 'portion shown to show the manufacturing order.
As shown, the etching mask for etching the first insulating layer is simply changed to further etch the first insulating layer in the upper region of the data electrode without significant change in the process, and when the anode is patterned, the exposed data electrode is exposed to the exposed data electrode. By only changing the mask to leave the auxiliary data electrode region formed, it is possible to solve the internal resistance problem of the data electrode, which caused a large variation in luminance in actual panel implementation without changing the process order or material. Although a separate metal process may be added to form the auxiliary data electrode, the process cost increase may be insignificant compared to the obtained effect.
As described above, the top-emitting OLED device and a method of manufacturing the same according to the present invention form a driving device, a data electrode, a scan electrode, and a metal electrode for electrical connection on a substrate, and then the data when the anode electrode of the OLED is formed thereon. By forming the auxiliary electrode of the same material as the anode electrode together on the electrode, the quality of the display image is reduced by reducing the luminance variation of each element position of the panel by lowering the resistance of the data electrode without increasing the cost without increasing the process cost. There is an effect to improve.
