Abstract

PURPOSE: A fault localization apparatus for electric railroad system is provided to detect a position of a fault and the distance of the fault within a short time by deciding a type of the fault by means of the detected feeding current and the detected boost current. CONSTITUTION: A fault localization apparatus for electric railroad system includes an auxiliary slave unit(210), a main slave unit(220), and a master unit(230). The auxiliary slave unit is installed at an auxiliary sectioning post in order to detect the boost current from an auto-transformer of the auxiliary sectioning post. The main slave unit is installed at a sectioning post in order to detect the boost current from an auto-transformer of the sectioning post. The master unit is installed at a substation in order to detect the feeding voltage and the feeding current of the substation and the boost current of the auto-transformer. In addition, the master unit detects the boost current of the auto-transformer of the substation according to a trip signal of a protective relay(240) when a fault is generated or requests the boost current of the auto-transformers to the auxiliary slave unit and the main slave unit, and locating the fault by deciding a type of fault by means of the boost current of the auto-transformers of the auxiliary slave unit and the main slave unit and the boost current of auto-transformer of the substation and the feeding current of the substation.
