Abstract

PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for electrolyzing brine which reduce power consumed during electrolysis by electrolyzing brine with platinum compound aqueous solution injected into platinum compound aqueous solution injection pipe connected to purified water injection pipe, and caustic soda prepared by the method are provided. CONSTITUTION: In a method for electrolyzing brine comprising the processes of installing cation chamber and anion chamber divided by a separation membrane formed inside an electrolytic cell, injecting brine and purified water into the cation chamber and anion chamber respectively through brine injection pipe and purified water injection pipe, and separating chlorine gas, hydrogen gas and caustic soda aqueous solution generated by impressing a power source to positive plate and negative plate installed in the cation chamber and anion chamber, the method is characterized in that a platinum compound aqueous solution is injected into the anion chamber through the purified water injection pipe. The apparatus for electrolyzing brine comprises cation chamber(112) and anion chamber(113) divided by a separation membrane(114) formed inside an electrolytic cell(111); positive plate(125) and negative plate(126) installed in the cation chamber(112) and anion chamber(113); a brine injection pipe(115) connected to the cation chamber(112); a purified water injection pipe(120) connected to the anion chamber(113); and a platinum compound aqueous solution injection pipe(127) connected to the purified water injection pipe(120).
