Abstract

PURPOSE: A continuously variable transmission is provided to efficiently use engine power by making stepless shifting area wide and to enhance durability by dividing a load applied to a belt. CONSTITUTION: A continuously variable transmission contains a torque converter(4) converting rotational force from an engine(2); a shift control input device(8) placed on an input shaft(6) directly connected to the torque converter; a stepless shifting gear(22) consisting of a driving pulley(24) on the input shaft, a driven pulley(26) on a power train member(20) and a belt(28) coupling two pulleys; and a TCU(transmission control unit)(50) controlling the transmission gear ratio of rotational force from the stepless shifting gear with rotational force from the shift control input device, on the power train member and an output shaft(62).
