Abstract

PURPOSE: A method for pre-activation of a catalytic converter is provided to reduce time for activation of a catalyst by heating the catalyst although an ignition key is not ignited when traveling of a vehicle is detected. CONSTITUTION: Sufficiency of power is decided if an ignition key is inserted and a clutch switch is turned on. If power is lower than a specific level, an alarm lamp is lighted on. If power is over a reference level, power is supplied to a heating device of a catalytic converter. Upon starting of power supply to the heating device, ignition of an engine and rotation of a crank are detected. If not, temperature of the catalytic converter is decided. If the catalytic converter is not sufficiently activated, power to the heating device is cut off. If the crack rotates, power supply to the heating device is kept for sufficiently activating the catalytic converter. If temperature of the catalytic converter approaches an activation level, power supply is stopped. According to pre-activation of the catalytic converter, time for activation is shortened and discharge of exhaust emission is reduced.
