Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compounds, by alkylating a naphthalene raw material containing naphthalene and/or a monoalkylnapthalene with olefins using a silica alumina catalyst supporting a specific amount of a metal and having a long life and hydrogenation ability. CONSTITUTION:A naphthalene raw material containing naphthalene and/or a monoalkylnaphthalene is reacted and alkylated with olefins (especially preferably propylene) using a silica alumina catalyst supporting 0.01-10wt.% metal (especially preferably Pt, Pd, Ni, W, Mo, Cr, etc.) having hydrogenation ability as a catalyst to afford alkylnaphthalenes. The reaction is preferably carried out at 200-500 deg.C, 0.2-5/hr liquid flow rate, 0.5-3 molar ratio of olefins/ naphthalene rings and 0.1-10 molar ratio of hydrogens/naphthalene rings under ordinary pressure-40kg/cm<2>.G. The resultant product is useful as a raw material for producing naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, etc.
